Immunize two million people for A/H1N1

TEGUCIGALPA .- More than two million people, 35 percent of Hondurans, will be vaccinated against influenza A (H1N1) from next Monday beginning from the student population, pregnant women, government groups and patients with chronic diseases.
Health authorities identify the most vulnerable population to be vaccinated.
The authorities expect to reduce the progression of the deadly virus, which appeared in Honduras in May 2009 has caused some 18 deaths and hundreds of infections.
The Head of Epidemiological Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, Thomas Guevara, said that as medical personnel ready to start mass vaccination campaign at home in homes, schools, state institutions and hospitals.
"On Monday we vaccinate two million people because we already have that amount of vaccine and we will give priority to pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, with renal and heart failure," said Guevara.
After immunization of vulnerable populations, will continue with students, government staff, members of the Fire Department and the Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) with those who cover 35 percent of the population.
Guevara said that so far this year have 87 infections recorded two deaths from 631 the previous year and 16 people have been vaccinated but Honduran 10.000 and this is the Public Health staff.
The regions are being affected by this disease are the departments of Cortes, Francisco Morazan, Atlantida, Colon, Comayagua are reporting cases seen in hospitals in these regions.
Health officials remind the public of preventive measures, which are always, hand washing, sneezing into the forearm and presenting symptoms with strong bout of flu, should go to a hospital.
