A suburban Cook County resident is this year?s first confirmed case of measles in Illinois, state officials said.

The resident became ill in mid-January and tested positive for measles, the Illinois Department of Public Health said...

Patients of and visitors to the emergency room of Northwest Community Hospital, 800 W. Central Rd., Arlington Heights, from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, and from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 17.
Customers of the Supermercado Guzman, 1611 N. Baldwin Rd., Palatine, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on both Jan. 12 and Jan. 13.

Health officials in Illinois are investigating a cluster of measles at a Cook County daycare center, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Five children under the age of one, all with ties to KinderCare Learning Center, are being tested. Two of them have been confirmed to have measles, while results for the remaining three are still pending.

The Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health said in a statement that the source of the infection for the children is not immediately known...

Three more children ? all under the age of one ? have been confirmed to have measles from a Palatine daycare center, health officials said Friday.

Tests are still pending for those three, but they have been diagnosed based on symptoms, the Associated Press reported.

A couple of people I know who date back to prior to the measles vaccine era do not remember infants getting the disease. I don't think daycares are the reason, since measles is so infectious that infants were certainly frequently exposed by siblings. The inability of vaccinated mothers to pass along immunity as well as women with natural immunity seems to be the problem.

(COOK COUNTY) Three additional cases of measles have been confirmed in Illinois, bringing the total to 9 this year, the Illinois Department of Public Health said Monday.

Eight of those confirmed measles cases are from northern suburban Cook County, Melaney Arnold, a spokeswoman for IDPH, told the Chicago Sun-Times.

All eight of those people ? two adults and six children ? were unvaccinated, the Cook County Department of Public Health said. The county health department has previously said the children at KinderCare were too young to be vaccinated, but it was not immediately clear if the additional child diagnosed with measles was also younger than one...

Two more suburban Cook County children have been diagnosed with measles, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 13 in Illinois, officials said Friday.

Both of the two new cases confirmed Friday are children under one year old who were both associated with KinderCare Learning Center in Palatine, according to Divya Mohan Little, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Public Health.

All 13 cases reported statewide are from Cook County, health officials said...

Lake County health officials warn of possible measles exposure

Health officials in Lake County are warning residents of a possible measles exposure in suburban Long Grove.

While officials emphasize that there are no confirmed cases of measles in the county, they are cautioning anyone who visited the Menards store at 2700 W. Lake Cook Road on Feb. 15 between 7:55 a.m.-3:20 p.m.

An individual who tested positive for the virus, who could have been contagious, was at the store during that time, officials said...

Report: Suburban measles cases similar to Disneyland strain, can't be connected


Most of the suburban people infected with measles earlier this year carried the same strain that was found in the high-profile outbreak that started at Disneyland, but officials weren't able to definitively link the two.

That's according to a two-page memo by Illinois Department of Public Health officials summarizing the measles outbreak in Illinois this year.

"Of the 14 cases that were laboratory-confirmed PCR positive by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory, 13 were genotyped and found to be measles genotype B3," the memo released to the Daily Herald reads. "This genotype was also identified in a recent multistate outbreak linked to a Disney theme park in California and a large outbreak in the Philippines."

But, spokeswoman Melaney Arnold says, state officials didn't find travelers or patients that provided a link between the local cases and the California ones...
