On October 19th, 2011 a suspected influenza like illness [ILI] outbreak in a DuPage County elementary school was reported. Increased absenteeism was reported in one of the first grade classroom with 17 of 28 (61%) students ill. Siblings of the students in this first grade classroom are now beginning to display ILI symptoms. On October 19, 2011 a suspected influenza like illness (ILI) outbreak in a DuPage County elementary school was reported to IDPH. Increased absenteeism was reported in one of the first grade classrooms with peak absenteeism in 11 of 28 (39%) students ill on October 6. A total of 32 of 696 (5%) students at the school in multiple classrooms were associated with the cluster, and absenteeism is currently at baseline levels. There were no reported cases of hospitalization or staff illness, and surveillance is ongoing.
