Influenza vaccine manufactures around the world initiated, in 2000, a collaboration to undertake scientific, technical, regulatory and policy issues raised during interpandemic and pandemic periods. This led, in February 2002, to the establishment of the Influenza Vaccine Supply International Task Force (IVS Task Force), a specialized group within the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA).
The IFPMA IVS Task Force provides governments and intergovernmental bodies with unique, relevant expertise from research-based vaccine manufactures around the world that are developing vaccines to combat both pandemic and seasonal influenza.
To assist public bodies in their preparation against pandemic influenza, the IVS Task Force provides expert opinions on many of the key issues facing planners and policy makers, including vaccination recommendations, information on the level of vaccine usage and vaccine distribution strategies.
