VANCOUVER -- Pregnant women were willing to be vaccinated against the H1N1 pandemic flu if their doctors made an effort to persuade them, a researcher said here.

In a single-institution study of more than 300 women, those whose doctors specifically recommended H1N1 vaccination were almost seven times more likely to get the shot than those whose providers didn't mention or didn't recommend the vaccine, according to Marci Drees, MD, of the Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Del.

Because of an aggressive pro-vaccine campaign, more than 62% of pregnant women in the hospital were immunized, "significantly higher" than historical rates, Drees told reporters at the annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
