BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho State Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday that it has confirmed the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza virus in a flock of domestic chickens in Bingham County.

The case is the first confirmed HPAI case in domestic birds this season in Idaho. HPAI is highly contagious. The virus can cause "high death loss of all domestic and wild birds," the ISDA said in a news release.

Signs of HPAI in domestic poultry, according to the ISDA, include sudden death; decreased appetite and activity; breathing difficulty; and dark combs and wattles...

Bird Flu Reported in 200 Chickens Belonging to 'Backyard Producer' in Latah County

MOSCOW - In March of this year, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture confirmed the first Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza of the season in the state when 14 cases were reported in a flock of domestic chickens in Bingham County.

On April 17, 2023, 36 cases were reported in Bonneville County. Seventy cases were reported in Canyon County in October. On December 13, officials confirmed 200 new cases in chickens belonging to a backyard poultry producer in Latah County, the highest number reported in a single Idaho location since September of 2022...
