Erna Schmidt Blumenschein 78, of Meridian, Idaho, took her last breath on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. She is survived by her husband, George Blumenschein, her daughters Rose Nikolov, Veronika Barnes and her husband, Charles Barnes, and her son George E. Blumenschein and his wife, Lesley Blumenschein. Erna was taken to the hospital Friday, October 15, 2009, diagnosed with possible swine flu. She was sent home to recover. The flu symptoms went away after a couple of weeks but she just never recovered. Her doctor put her on hospice with the diagnosis of failure to thrive. The deceased was a child raised in Hitler-occupied Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia. After the war, she met her future husband, George Blumenschein, in England, married and had two beautiful daughters. They traveled to the USA on the Queen Mary and later added a wonderful son to their family. Erna was a good wife and mother. As a housewife, she sometimes worked outside the home. She was a fantastic cook and prepared meals at the Heidelberg House in Burbank, CA. She loved to dance and to sing. As an excellent grandmother, she always provided love and playtime for her grandchildren (daughter, Rose's children) Dimi Nikolov and his wife Tammy Nikolov, and Leena Nikolov, and (son, George E. Blumenschein?s children) George E Blumenschein, II, and Leeta Blumenschein. A Memorial service will be held at the Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel, located at 5400 Fairview, Boise, ID 83706, on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
