Shocking: 25 children dead in month in a Niloufer Hospital!

While sick children are dying in Niloufer hospital, which is packed beyond capacity with toddlers suffering from various ailments, the government chooses to look the other way.
On entering Niloufer Hospital one will wonder if it?s a hospital or a railway platform. From the entrance to the parking lot, patients and their relatives are all over, trying to squeeze into the little available space to catch a quick nap ? sleep is out of the question. One reason for this overcrowding is the outbreak of dengue in Medak, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar. All the affected children are being shifted to Niloufer Hospital, which remains the only government paediatric hospital in Hyderabad and Rangareddy district.
Till Wednesday, the hospital had admitted 1,470 children who were suffering from viral fever and dengue. But the hospital?s capacity is only 500. In the last 15 days four deaths have been registered.
?Since the last 15 days there has been a sudden rise in dengue cases. Patients have come from other districts to our hospital but we have only a 500-bed capacity. Yet, we have accommodated all of them. At present we are trying to treat 1,000 patients at one time,? said Dr Daruru Ranganath, superintendent.
