[h=3]Abstract[/h] Our lungs are constantly exposed to the environment and potential pathogens. As the interface between host and environment, the respiratory epithelium has evolved sophisticated sensing mechanisms as part of its defence against pathogens. In this review, we examine how the respiratory epithelium senses and responds to influenza A virus (IAV), the biggest cause of respiratory viral deaths worldwide.
