Costa Rica hospital cancels surgery patients increased by influenza A

The public hospital of San Jos? Calder?n Guardia suspended as from today I had surgery scheduled, due to the increased number of patients with influenza A, with the intention of leaving more free beds for those affected by this disease.
Today, there are a total of 22 individuals suspected of suffering from this disease which remain confined in the medical center of the Costa Rican capital, according to the newspaper La Nacion.
All those affected, who have pictures of pneumonia, saturate the beds and the intent of the Calderon Guardia is suspended surgeries to make room for new cases of people suffering from the new disease.
The hospital's director, Luis Paulino Hern?ndez, said it decided to take this measure after the case of influenza "increased from six to 22 in a single period of 48 hours."
For this reason, we adopted the "Plan C" that is to cancel the surgeries to meet the "unusual number of patients with severe respiratory infections," said the doctor.
This measure implies that we cease to perform 30 daily scheduled service that will be taken when reducing the number of patients with influenza A, reported to the hospital authorities, one of the largest in the country.
Until further notice, only surgical interventions in emergencies and patients with cancer.
The Health Minister Maria Luisa Avila, said today at the local radio station Monumental is the Calderon Guardia Hospital who is serving more patients with influenza A, in the case of Costa Rica has already cost the lives of four people.
He indicated that now the country is at the peak "higher" in this wave of influence.
In the event of significant increases in cases of disease caused by virus AH1N1 in the medical center, Hernandez said it would apply the "Plan D, which includes the closure of the hospital to new patients."
