Hong Kong's second cholera case of the year confirmed

Hong Kong on Friday recorded its second case of cholera in a week when a 32-year-old man who is the son of a woman diagnosed with the disease two days ago was confirmed to also have the disease.

The man in the latest case has been under medical surveillance since he developed diarrhoea early this week.

Laboratory tests showed he was infected with Vibrio cholerae O1 Ogawa, the bacterium that causes cholera, the Centre for Health Protection said on Friday.

The man?s 54-year-old woman was found to have contracted the disease on Wednesday. They are the first two cases of cholera reported in Hong Kong this year...
