Well-known member
The activity of human swine influenza (HSI) continues to decrease, as reflected by the number of attendances at designated flu clinics for ILI and the consultation rates for ILI at general practitioners’ clinics. Currently about 38% of patients attending Designated FluClinics (DFCs) for ILI symptoms were tested positive for HSI.

The HSI virus has replaced seasonal influenza virus and is the main circulating influenza virus in Hong Kong, now representing about 80% of all circulating influenza viruses

As of Oct 28, 2009, 109 patients with HSI infection remained in public hospitals

The weekly number of severe cases recorded in week 43 (Oct 18 to 24) was 6. As of Oct 28, a total of 154 severe cases were recorded. These severe cases included 89 males and 65 females with ages ranged from 13 months to 93 years (median: 51 years).

In week 43 (Oct 18 to 24), 3 fatal cases were recorded. As of Oct 28, a total of 37 fatal cases were recorded. They were 26 males and 11 females, age ranged from 11 to 93 years (median: 55 years).

The seasonal influenza activity is low. In week 43 (Oct 18 to 24), 3.7%, 1.5% and 9.6% of all circulating viruses were H1, H3 and B respectively
