Urgent blood donation appeal due to low inventory

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

??Despite frequent appeals by the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) to members of the public to donate blood in the past three months, the blood inventory still remains at a low level.

??The BTS urges the public to donate blood immediately to maintain usual blood supply to meet the needs of hospital services.

??In view of consistent cold weather coupled with rising demand and low donor turnout in the past two months, the blood inventory has not been able to return to the normal level.

??As recent major operations have consumed a large volume of blood, the blood inventory has continued to deplete.

??The BTS has to make an appeal again for public support through donation.

??For the locations and service hours of donor centres, please call 2710 1234 or visit the BTS website (www.ha.org.hk/rcbts).

??Regular blood donation holds the key to a stable and adequate blood supply. Please act now!??
