Hong Kong reports seventh swine flu death and another H3 elderly fatality (Sept. 1, 2009)

Hong Kong has been reported today a new fatal case of human swine influenza (HSI), in a 50 years old male patient.

He developed symptoms on August 14, hospitalized on Aug. 17 and admitted in ICU at Aug. 19. Despite treatment with antiviral drug oseltamivir and mechanical ventilation, he passed away on Sept. 1. The patient had a body-mass index equal to or above 30.

In addition, a 92 years old patient was confirmed infected by H3 influenza virus. He passed away on August 10.

Other two patients are currently hospitalized in ICU with influenza H3.
