As at noon today (June 8), no COVID-19 confirmed patient was discharged from hospital in the past 24 hours. So far, a total of 1 049 patients with confirmed or probable infections have been discharged.

At present, there are 636 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 188 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 55 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in nine hospitals, among which three patients are in critical condition (case numbers: 595, 1084 and 1092), and the remaining 52 patients are in stable condition.

The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) has announced that as of 4pm today (June 8), the CHP was investigating an additional confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1 108 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1 107 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The newly reported case announced today involves a 34-year-old woman who had a travel history during the incubation period. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on the confirmed case are ongoing. For case details and contact tracing information, please see the Annex.

Meanwhile, the CHP has been proactively conducting epidemiological investigations and carrying out preventive control measures in regard to the cluster in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin. As of 4pm today, 1 382 deep throat saliva samples had been collected in Luk Chuen House, among which eight samples need to be collected again owing to leakage, while 1 374 samples have had testing for COVID-19 completed. Except for the four confirmed cases announced on June 2 with positive results, other samples have tested negative.

The CHP is also following up with the residents in Luk Chuen House who have not yet returned their deep throat saliva samples. The CHP strongly appeals to those who have not got in touch with the CHP to contact the CHP personnel according to the medical test order issued and return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for early testing.

Meanwhile, as of 4pm today, the CHP had collected and tested 2 115 samples for Luen Yuet House, Kwai Luen Estate, with no positive results.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. In particular, they should go out less and avoid social activities such as meal gatherings or other gatherings to reduce the chance of contacting infected persons who may not present any symptoms, and minimise the risk of outbreak clusters emerging in the community.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "Given that the situation of COVID-19 infection remains severe and that there is a continuous increase in the number of cases reported around the world, members of the public are strongly urged to avoid all non-essential travel outside Hong Kong.

"The CHP also strongly urges the public to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene, which is key to personal protection against infection and prevention of the spread of the disease in the community. On a personal level, members of the public should wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. They should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

"As for household environmental hygiene, members of the public are advised to maintain drainage pipes properly, regularly pour water into drain outlets (U-traps) and cover all floor drain outlets when they are not in use. After using the toilet, they should put the toilet lid down before flushing to avoid spreading germs."

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) has announced that as of 4pm today (June 12), the CHP was investigating an additional confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1,109 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1,108 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The case involves a 58-year-old female (the 1,109th case) with good past health, who is the sister-in-law of the 34-year-old female patient of the 1,084th case and the elder sister of the 56-year-old male patient of the 1,085th case confirmed on May 31. They all lived in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin. Pending admission to a quarantine centre as a close contact, the patient developed fever on May 31 and was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) for management on the same day. During her treatment at the hospital, the patient's nasopharyngeal swabs and throat swabs collected on May 31 and June 1 tested negative for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Her fever later subsided and she was discharged on June 2 and subsequently transferred to the quarantine centre. She had all along remained asymptomatic at the quarantine centre. The patient's deep throat saliva sample submitted before the end of quarantine yesterday (June 11) tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and she was sent to PWH for management. She is in a stable condition.

The patient is a close home contact of the 1,084th case and the 1,085th case and lived alone in the quarantine centre since June 2. She had no other close contact before turning into a confirmed case. According to the CHP's initial epidemiological investigation, the patient is thought to have possibly acquired the infection from the 1,084th case and the 1,085th case through home contact. The case is classified as epidemiologically linked with local cases.

Meanwhile, the CHP has been proactively conducting epidemiological investigations and carrying out preventive control measures in regard to the cluster in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin. The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) has announced that as of 4pm today (June 13), the CHP was investigating an additional confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1,110 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1,109 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The case involves a 33-year-old male (the 1,110th case) with good past health who resides at the "10" unit in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin, which is on the same floor and adjacent to the "12" unit that the 34-year-old female patient of the 1,084th case confirmed on May 31 reside at. In view of the cluster involving residents in Luk Chuen House, the DH carried out prudent measures on infection control and evacuated all asymptomatic residents of the "10" and "12" units of Luk Chuen House on June 4. The patient was also arranged to be sent to quarantine centre on June 4 and was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) for management on the same day due to fever. The patient's nasopharyngeal and throat swab, deep throat saliva sample and stool specimen collected during his stay in the hospital tested negative for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). He underwent a bronchoscopy yesterday (June 12) due to persistent fever and pneumonia. His bronchoalveolar lavage specimen collected during the bronchoscopy was tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. He is in a stable condition.

The patient was admitted to hospital since June 4 and prior to that, he mainly stayed at home without going out. Except for his two elder brothers and his mother living with him, he does not have other close contacts. His two elder brothers and mother were also arranged for quarantine on June 4. The two brothers were sent to PWH on the same day due to fever. Their respiratory specimens tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 and their fever later subsided. The patient's mother remained asymptomatic. The three are still under quarantine in the quarantine centre.

According to the CHP's initial epidemiological investigation, as the patient lived adjacent to the family cluster of the 1,084th case, there is possibility that he was infected due to environmental factors. The case is thus classified as epidemiologically linked with local cases. The CHP's epidemiological investigation is ongoing. In addition, relevant government departments and experts have been actively following up on the environmental factors involving the "10" and "12" units of Luk Chuen House.

Meanwhile, the CHP has been actively conducting epidemiological investigation as well as carrying out preventive and control measures in regard to the cluster in Luk Chuen House. As of 4pm today, 1,399 deep throat saliva samples had been collected in Luk Chuen House, among which six samples need to be collected again owing to leakage, while 1,393 samples have had testing for COVID-19 completed. Except for the four confirmed cases announced on June 2 with positive results, other samples have tested negative.

The CHP is also following up with the residents in Luk Chuen House who have not yet returned their deep throat saliva samples. The CHP strongly appeals to those who have not got in touch with the CHP to contact the CHP personnel according to the medical test order issued and return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for testing.

Meanwhile, as of 4pm today, the CHP had collected and tested 2,120 samples for Luen Yuet House, Kwai Luen Estate, with no positive results.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. In particular, they should go out less and avoid social activities such as meal gatherings or other gatherings to reduce the chance of contacting infected persons who may not present any symptoms, and minimise the risk of outbreak clusters emerging in the community.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "Given that the situation of COVID-19 infection remains severe and that there is a continuous increase in the number of cases reported around the world, members of the public are strongly urged to avoid all non-essential travel outside Hong Kong.

"The CHP also strongly urges the public to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene, which is key to personal protection against infection and prevention of the spread of the disease in the community. On a personal level, members of the public should wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. Meanwhile, the CHP has been actively conducting epidemiological investigation as well as carrying out preventive and control measures in regard to the cluster in Luk Chuen House. The CHP yesterday (June 13) conducted an inspection at Luk Chuen House with relevant departments and experts. Environmental samples from the flat (including the toilet and kitchen) of the patient of the 1110th case and vent pipe on the rooftop of Luk Chuen House were taken. All environmental samples were tested negative for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

The CHP yesterday and today are giving out another specimen bottle to residents of Luk Chuen House through the Housing Department for collecting deep throat saliva samples for the second COVID-19 testing. The CHP strongly appeals to and urges them to collect their deep throat saliva samples according to instructions and submit them to the CHP in the specified period (June 15 to 17) for early testing. The CHP will arrange compulsory testing for those who do not return their samples.

The newly reported cases announced today involve two males and two females aged between 3 and 36. All of them had a travel history during the incubation period. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on the confirmed cases are ongoing. For case details and contact tracing information, please see the Annex.

Meanwhile, the CHP has been actively conducting an epidemiological investigation as well as carrying out preventive and control measures in regard to the cluster in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin. Residents of the "10" and "12" units of Luk Chuen House who are under the compulsory quarantine arrangement in the quarantine centre were tested for the antibody against COVID-19 and none of them tested positive for the antibody.

The Environmental Protection Department has co-ordinated with experts and academics of local universities and conducted tracer gas measurements at Luk Chuen House on June 16 and 17, and the results are being analysed in detail. The Housing Department has arranged disinfection under the direction of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department for the units and applied additional seals on the joints of the pipes in these units before residents return home at Luk Chuen House from the quarantine centre.

In addition, the CHP has given out more specimen bottles to other residents of Luk Chuen House through the Housing Department for collecting deep throat saliva samples for the second round of COVID-19 testing. As of 4pm today, the CHP had collected and tested 1 258 deep throat saliva samples in the second round for Luk Chuen House and all of them tested negative for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

Prince of Wales Hospital announces the passing away of a COVID-19 patient

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesman for the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) today (June 20) announced that a 78-year-old female COVID-19 confirmed case (case no. 1092) passed away today.

She was admitted to the hospital on June 2. The patient presented with fever, shortness of breath and cough and her condition was stable. Her condition later deteriorated and she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on June 8. She was intubated, required renal replacement therapy and mechanical ventilation for assisted breathing as well as inotropic infusion. Her condition further deteriorated and she eventually succumbed at 5.33pm today.

The Hospital was saddened about the passing away of the patient and would offer necessary assistance to her family members.

Including the above case, five COVID-19 patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.

The CHP has contacted the health authority in the Philippines to obtain more information about the case. According to the health authority in the Philippines, the patient had tested positive for COVID-19 on June 20 in the Philippines.

The spokesman for the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) today (June 25) announced that a 55-year-old male COVID-19 confirmed case (case no. 1180) passed away early this morning.

The patient suffered from stroke in Philippines and was admitted to the local hospital at the end of May. He was escorted back to Hong Kong by air ambulance and was admitted to PMH on June 23. He ran a high fever on admission and was in serious condition. He was subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. His condition later deteriorated and developed severe sepsis. The patient further ran a downhill course and eventually succumbed at 1.30am today.

The hospital was saddened about the passing away of the patient and would offer necessary assistance to his family members. The case has been referred to the Coroner for follow up.

Including the above case, seven COVID-19 patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.

As at noon today (June 26), three COVID-19 confirmed patients (case numbers: 1088, 1095 and 1101) were discharged from hospital in the past 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,091 patients with confirmed or probable infection have been discharged.

At present, there are 602 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1,170 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 97 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in nine hospitals, among which one patient is in critical condition (case number: 595), and the remaining 96 patients are in stable condition.

In addition, the Hospital Authority (HA)'s current stockpile of personal protective equipment comprises 29 million surgical masks, 2.5 million surgical respirators, 5 million protective gowns and 8.3 million face shields, adequate for around three months of consumption.

The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.

The newly reported cases announced today involve three males aged between 7 and 26. All of them had travel history during the incubation period. The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health has announced that as of 4pm today (June 30), the CHP was investigating two additional confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1 206 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1 205 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The newly reported cases announced today involve two males aged 19 and 59. They had travel history during the incubation period. A symptomatic close contact of them is being arranged to be admitted to a public hospital for treatment. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on the confirmed cases are ongoing. For case details and contact tracing information, please see the Annex.

In addition, the CHP received a report from Mainland Customs on a cluster of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases involving 11 crew members of a container ship, MSC Flavia, originally scheduled to disembark at Ningbo on June 26. These 11 crew members tested positive for COVID-19 by Ningbo Customs on arrival. Among them, nine crew members embarked on the container ship from Hong Kong on June 24 with six arriving in Hong Kong from Indonesia, two from Greece and one from Croatia between June 21 and 23. All were declared to be asymptomatic on arrival in Hong Kong. Two of the nine cases were subsequently detected as having fever on arrival in Ningbo while the other seven were asymptomatic. The CHP has contacted the health authority in the Mainland to obtain more information about the cases.

Meanwhile, a member company of the Cyberport Startup Alumni Association, namely HelloToby Technology (HK) Limited (Toby), has also begun to provide a door-to-door specimen collection service for COVID-19 testing provided for the CHP's Enhanced Laboratory Surveillance Programme. Together with GoGo Tech Limited (GOGOVAN) and HK PICK-UP LIMITED (Pickupp), which have already started to provide such a service earlier, there are currently three companies providing the door-to-door specimen collection service.

CHP investigates 28 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health has announced that as of 4pm today (July 1), the CHP was investigating 28 additional confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1 234 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1 233 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The newly reported cases announced today involve 12 males and 16 females aged between 3 and 46. Except case 1 233, all had a travel history during the incubation period.

For the 1 233th case, it involves a 46-year-old female with good past health, who is the wife of the 59-year-old male patient of the 1 205th case and the mother of the 19-year-old male patient of the 1 206th case confirmed yesterday (June 30). They all lived in Mei Sau House, Mei Tin Estate, Tai Wai. She developed symptoms and was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital for isolation upon confirmation of cases 1 205 and 1 206 yesterday, and was subsequently tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

The patient had no travel history. She is a household close contact of cases 1 205 and 1 206. According to the CHP's initial epidemiological investigation, the patient possibly has acquired the infection from her husband and son through home contact. The case is classified as epidemiologically linked with imported cases.

The patient developed fever, malaise and cough on June 26 and sought medical advice from a private practitioner in Lam Tin on the same day. She had also visited some vegetables and meat stalls near Tai Wai Market and a supermarket in Mei Tin Estate before admission to hospital. As a precautionary measure for early detection of possible transmission into the community, the CHP has arranged with Housing Department to distribute deep throat saliva specimens bottles to residents of Mei Sau House starting today. The CHP will also distribute specimen bottles to staff of the premises the patient visited during the infectious period. The CHP appeals to residents of Mei Sau House and related persons return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for early testing and to seek medical attention early if develop symptoms.
