As at noon today (May 18), one COVID-19 confirmed patient (case number: 1053) was discharged from hospital in the past 24 hours. So far, a total of 1 025 confirmed and suspected patients have been discharged.

At present, there are 659 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 219 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 27 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in nine hospitals, among which one patient is in critical condition (case number: 595), three patients are in serious condition (case numbers: 338, 461 and 713), and the remaining 23 patients are in stable condition.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. In particular, they should go out less and avoid social activities such as meal gatherings or other gatherings to reduce the chance of contacting infected persons who may not present any symptoms, and minimise the risk of outbreak clusters emerging in the community.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "Given that the situation of COVID-19 infection remains severe and that there is a continuous increase in the number of cases reported around the world, members of the public are strongly urged to avoid all non-essential travel outside Hong Kong.

"The CHP also strongly urges the public to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene, which is key to personal protection against infection and prevention of the spread of the disease in the community. On a personal level, members of the public should wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. They should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

"As for household environmental hygiene, members of the public are advised to maintain drainage pipes properly, regularly pour water into drain outlets (U-traps) and cover all floor drain outlets when they are not in use. After using the toilet, they should put the toilet lid down before flushing to avoid spreading germs."

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) has announced that as of 4pm today (May 19), no new local confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had been recorded, and that the number of cases in Hong Kong remained at 1 056 so far (comprising 1 055 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The CHP will further extend the Enhanced Laboratory Surveillance Programme tomorrow (May 20) to conduct free COVID-19 testing for selected staff members working at residential care homes for the elderly, residential care homes for persons with disabilities and nursing homes. Strengthening testing for asymptomatic staff members at these institutions will help identify silent carriers early and minimise the risk of cluster infection there to safeguard the health of staff members and residents.

Under the programme, the DH, with the assistance of the Social Welfare Department, will provide specimen containers to the institutions starting tomorrow and invite each institution to arrange for three staff members to collect deep throat saliva samples for testing. Priority would be given to those who come in close contact with residents on a routine basis, such as nurses, health workers and care workers.

Staff members taking part in the programme should be asymptomatic and participation should be voluntary. They should collect samples in accordance with the instructions by themselves during the specified collection period and return the specimen containers on the same day to the collection points of the DH or the Hospital Authority, or via the door-to-door specimen collection service (charges apply). The collection points of the samples are 13 designated chest clinics or dermatological clinics under the DH from 9am to 1pm on Monday to Friday and also some general out-patient clinics under the Hospital Authority from 8.30am to 9.30am on Monday to Friday (except public holidays). The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health has announced that as of 4pm today (May 21), the CHP was investigating eight additional confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1 064 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1 063 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The newly reported cases announced today involve four males and four females aged between 11 and 73. All of them had travel history during the incubation period. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on the confirmed cases are ongoing. For case details and contact tracing information, please see the Annex.

The CHP urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives. In addition, the CHP has issued a letter to schools today to urge them to maintain vigilance against COVID-19 at school when classes resume.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "As schools are collective assembly places, infectious diseases such as COVID-19 could be easily spread among people through their daily contacts. Sources of infection could come from staff, students or visitors (especially those having symptoms). Students or staff with fever (oral temperature higher than 37.5 degrees Celsius, or ear temperature higher than 38 degrees C), regardless of the presence of respiratory symptoms, should not be allowed to attend school. They should wear a mask and consult doctors promptly."

This additional measure should continue until further notice by the CHP.

If a school notices an increase in fever or respiratory illnesses among students or staff, it should make a report promptly to the CHP. If a case of COVID-19 affecting a staff member or student is detected, the CHP will carry out epidemiological investigations and contact tracing, and provide advice to the school on the necessary prevention and control measures to be taken, including possible school closure.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. Meanwhile, the CHP is investigating an overseas case. The case involves a 66-year-old female patient who travelled to Spain from March 2 to May 20 and the United Kingdom from May 20 to 26. She travelled from London to Amsterdam for transit and arrived in Hong Kong on May 27 on flight KL887 (economy class) by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. According to the patient, she developed malaise and loss of smell and taste on March 26 and had received a test of which the result was positive for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Spain on March 28. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, she was transferred directly from Hong Kong International Airport to North Lantau Hospital and subsequently admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital for management. Her respiratory specimen tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. She is currently in a stable condition. The CHP has contacted the health authority in Spain to obtain more information about the case.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health has announced that as of 4pm today (June 2), the CHP was investigating six additional confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1 094 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1 093 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The newly reported cases announced today involve five females and one male aged between 15 and 78. Among them, four reside in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin, and one had a travel history during the incubation period. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on the confirmed cases are ongoing. For case details and contact tracing information, please see the Annex.

Given the emergence of confirmed cases residing in Luk Chuen House in the past few days, the Government expert group inspected the building last night to follow up on the matter.

According to the initial inspection findings by members of the Government expert group, including members from the CHP; Under Secretary for the Environment, Mr Tse Chin-wan; and Chair of Infectious Diseases, Department of Microbiology, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, Professor Yuen Kwok-yung, the emergence of the cases were not due to pipe issues of the units concerned. Hence, no evacuation of the residents of the block is required. Separately, the CHP took eight environmental samples from the washrooms of the units of the additional confirmed cases as a precautionary measure and all were negative. The members also considered that the touching of common facilities, such as letterbox, lift and entrance gate may have caused the transmission or cross infection. The CHP strongly urges the public, especially the residents concerned, to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. In particular, they should go out less and avoid social activities such as meal gatherings or other gatherings to reduce the chance of contacting infected persons who may not present any symptoms, and minimise the risk of outbreak clusters emerging in the community.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "Given that the situation of COVID-19 infection remains severe and that there is a continuous increase in the number of cases reported around the world, members of the public are strongly urged to avoid all non-essential travel outside Hong Kong.

"The CHP urges the public to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene, which is key to personal protection against infection and prevention of the spread of the disease in the community. On a personal level, members of the public should wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. They should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health has announced that as of 4pm today (June 3), no new local confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had been recorded, and that the number of cases in Hong Kong remained at 1 094 so far (comprising 1 093 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The CHP has been proactively conducting epidemiological investigations and carrying out preventive control measures about the cluster in Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin. As of 4pm today, 1 056 deep throat saliva samples had been collected in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, among which 25 samples need to be collected again owing to leakage and the remaining 1 031 samples have had testing for COVID-19 completed. Except for the four confirmed cases announced yesterday (June 2) with positive results, other samples have tested negative.

The CHP has been taking the initiative to contact those residents in Luk Chuen House who have not yet returned their deep throat saliva samples for follow-up. A spokesman for the CHP said, "As of 5pm today, 66 units with relevant residents had not yet returned their samples. The CHP strongly appeals to and urges them to return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for early testing. The CHP will arrange compulsory testing for those who do not return their samples."

Meanwhile, as of 4pm today, the CHP had collected and tested 1 726 samples for Luen Yuet House, Kwai Luen Estate, with no positive results.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) has announced that as of 6pm today (June 4), the CHP was investigating six additional confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1 100 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1 099 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The newly reported cases announced today involve six males aged between 15 and 72. Among them, one resides in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin, and the other five had a travel history during the incubation period. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on the confirmed cases are ongoing. For case details and contact tracing information, please see the Annex.

Meanwhile, the CHP has been proactively conducting epidemiological investigations and carrying out preventive control measures about the cluster in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate. In view of the latest information of the cluster involving residents in Luk Chuen House, that five of the confirmed cases reside at either the "10" and "12" units, Government experts considered that the possibility that the emergence of the cases was due to pipe issues of the units concerned cannot be ruled out at this stage. The CHP thus decided to carry out prudent measures on infection controls and the DH will evacuate all asymptomatic residents of the "10" and "12" units of the whole block by issuing quarantine orders and transferring them to a quarantine centre. Symptomatic residents will be sent to the hospital for isolation. After that, relevant government departments will conduct a thorough inspection into the units.

As of 4pm today, 1 281 deep throat saliva samples had been collected in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, among which 26 samples need to be collected again owing to leakage, while 1 255 samples have had testing for COVID-19 completed. Except for the four confirmed cases announced on June 2 with positive results, other samples have tested negative.

The CHP is also following up with the residents in Luk Chuen House who have not yet returned their deep throat saliva samples. As of 4pm today, the CHP still cannot get in touch with six units of relevant residents. The CHP strongly appeals to them to contact the CHP personnel and return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for early testing. The CHP will arrange compulsory testing for those who do not return their samples.

Meanwhile, as of 4pm today, the CHP had collected and tested 1 978 samples for Luen Yuet House, Kwai Luen Estate, with no positive results.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. In addition, as Primary 4 to Primary 6 students and Secondary 1 to Secondary 2 students will resume classes soon, the CHP will issue another letter to schools to urge them to maintain vigilance against COVID-19 at school.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "As schools are collective assembly places, infectious diseases such as COVID-19 could be easily spread among people through their daily contacts. Sources of infection could come from staff, students or visitors (especially those having symptoms). Students or staff with fever (oral temperature higher than 37.5 degrees Celsius, or ear temperature higher than 38 degrees Celsius), regardless of the presence of respiratory symptoms, should not be allowed to attend school. They should wear a mask and consult doctors promptly."

The spokesman reminded that it is of prime importance to measure and record temperature properly. Schools should actively check the body temperature of all students every day when they arrive at school so as to identify students with fever. Staff should also check their temperature before work every day. Students and staff with fever or respiratory illnesses should refrain from attending school and seek medical advice as soon as possible. These additional measures should continue until further notice by the CHP.

If a school notices an increase in fever or respiratory illnesses among students or staff, it should make a report promptly to the CHP. If a case of COVID-19 affecting a staff member or student is detected, the CHP will carry out epidemiological investigations and contact tracing, and provide advice to the school on the necessary prevention and control measures to be taken, including possible school closure.

In addition, the CHP is investigating an overseas case. The case involves a 68-year-old male patient who took flight AC7 (economy class) on Air Canada from Canada arriving in Hong Kong yesterday (June 4). According to the patient, he had tested positive for COVID-19 in Canada and he was transferred directly from Hong Kong International Airport upon arrival to Princess Margaret Hospital for management. The CHP has contacted the health authority in Canada to obtain more information about the case.

Meanwhile, the CHP has been proactively conducting epidemiological investigations and carrying out preventive control measures in regard to the cluster in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin. Concerning the evacuation of all residents of the "10" and "12" units of Luk Chuen House announced yesterday, as of 7am today, 75 residents of the units concerned had been transferred to the quarantine centre at Chun Yeung Estate, Fo Tan. Six residents have been sent to Prince of Wales Hospital for management due to physical discomfort and all of them tested negative for COVID-19.

As of 4pm today, 1 363 deep throat saliva samples had been collected in Luk Chuen House, among which 11 samples need to be collected again owing to leakage, while 1 352 samples have had testing for COVID-19 completed. Except for the four confirmed cases announced on June 2 with positive results, other samples have tested negative.

The CHP is also following up with the residents in Luk Chuen House who have not yet returned their deep throat saliva samples. As of 4pm today, the CHP had ascertained that the resident of one unit concerned had departed Hong Kong in mid-May and there are still five units of relevant residents that the CHP cannot get in touch with. The CHP strongly appeals to them to contact the CHP personnel and return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for early testing. The CHP will arrange compulsory testing for those who do not return their samples.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

As at noon today (June 7), one COVID-19 confirmed patient (case number: 1055) was discharged from hospital in the past 24 hours. So far, a total of 1 049 patients with confirmed or probable infections have been discharged.

At present, there are 651 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 211 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 53 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in nine hospitals, among which two patients are in critical condition (case numbers: 595 and 1084), and the remaining 51 patients are in stable condition.

The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) has announced that as of 4pm today (June 7), the CHP was investigating an additional confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), taking the number of cases to 1 107 in Hong Kong so far (comprising 1 106 confirmed cases and one probable case).

The newly reported case announced today involve a 25-year-old woman who had a travel history during the incubation period. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on the confirmed case are ongoing. For case details and contact tracing information, please see the Annex.

Meanwhile, the CHP has been proactively conducting epidemiological investigations and carrying out preventive control measures in regard to the cluster in Luk Chuen House, Lek Yuen Estate, Sha Tin. As of 4pm today, 1 382 deep throat saliva samples had been collected in Luk Chuen House, among which 9 samples need to be collected again owing to leakage, while 1 373 samples have had testing for COVID-19 completed. Except for the four confirmed cases announced on June 2 with positive results, other samples have tested negative.

The CHP is also following up with the residents in Luk Chuen House who have not yet returned their deep throat saliva samples. As of 4pm today, the CHP, with assistance from the police, had got in touch with residents of one more unit and ascertained that they had moved out from Luk Chuen House before April. There are still three units of relevant residents that the CHP cannot get in touch with. The CHP strongly appeals to them to contact the CHP personnel according to the medical test order issued and return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for early testing.

Meanwhile, as of 4pm today, the CHP had collected and tested 2 109 samples for Luen Yuet House, Kwai Luen Estate, with no positive results.

The CHP again urged members of the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimise the risk of infection. In particular, they should go out less and avoid social activities such as meal gatherings or other gatherings to reduce the chance of contacting infected persons who may not present any symptoms, and minimise the risk of outbreak clusters emerging in the community.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "Given that the situation of COVID-19 infection remains severe and that there is a continuous increase in the number of cases reported around the world, members of the public are strongly urged to avoid all non-essential travel outside Hong Kong.

"The CHP also strongly urges the public to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene, which is key to personal protection against infection and prevention of the spread of the disease in the community. On a personal level, members of the public should wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. They should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

"As for household environmental hygiene, members of the public are advised to maintain drainage pipes properly, regularly pour water into drain outlets (U-traps) and cover all floor drain outlets when they are not in use. After using the toilet, they should put the toilet lid down before flushing to avoid spreading germs."
