As at noon today (January 10), public hospitals had admitted five patients in the past 24 hours who have been to Wuhan in the past 14 days and presented with fever, respiratory infection or pneumonia symptoms. The patients concerned had not visited wet markets in Wuhan before the onset of symptoms.

Including the above-mentioned cases, the Hospital Authority (HA) has reported 53 patient cases since December 31, 2019. Specimens of the patients concerned have been sent to the Department of Health for testing. Among all the suspected cases, 31 have been discharged and those patients staying in hospitals are in stable condition.

CHP provides update on latest progress on cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (January 12) received notification from the National Health Commission (NHC) that it has shared with the World Health Organization (WHO) the genetic sequences of the novel coronavirus associated with the cluster of pneumonia cases detected in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The relevant institutions have also uploaded the genetic sequences onto the online Genbank (GISAID). GISAID is cross checking the information and will publish it upon completion.

The CHP's Public Health Laboratory Services Branch (PHLSB), as one of the users of this Genbank, will obtain the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus. While the CHP's Public Health Laboratory Services Branch is conducting molecular testing for a number of coronaviruses, it will develop specific tests based on the information of the new sequence.

The CHP will continue to maintain close liaison with the NHC as well as the WHO and closely monitor the latest development of cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan.

Hong Kong is set to race against time to develop diagnostic tests for the mystery strain of pneumonia that has claimed its first fatality
on the mainland, after the city obtains the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus from Chinese authorities.

A team of Hong Kong experts, meanwhile, will on Monday fly to Wuhan – ground zero of the outbreak – in Hubei province to meet health officials there and get first-hand information on the disease and control measures implemented.

The latest development came as Hong Kong’s public hospitals reported seven more suspected cases.

The seven comprised two boys aged eight and 13, a 10-year-old girl, a man and three women, aged 38 to 67. All had been to the mainland city in the past two weeks and developed fever, respiratory infection or pneumonia symptoms.

None of them had visited wet markets there...

After the outbreak of new coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, Hubei, confirmed and suspected cases have appeared in neighboring countries and regions. Suspicious cases have also been reported in Hong Kong for the past few days. The Hospital Authority stated that as of 12:00 noon today (17th), public hospitals had informed the Department of Health in the past 24 hours and received 4 people who had visited Wuhan in the past 14 days. Patients with fever, respiratory infections or pneumonia.



The report stated that 4 patients included 3 men and 1 woman, aged between 24 and 43 years. Along with the new suspected cases, a total of 82 suspected cases have been reported in Hong Kong so far. Six of the reported cases are still in hospital for isolation, all in stable condition. Patient samples have been sent to the Department of Health for laboratory testing and no confirmed case of new coronavirus infection has been identified.

The Hospital Authority (HA) spokesperson reminded that restricted visiting arrangements are now imposed in all public hospitals. "The HA suggests members of the public to avoid visiting patients in ward if they have fever, or have close contact with patients with respiratory symptoms in countries/areas with possible transmission of novel coronavirus infection."

Visitors of public hospitals are also required to wear masks in all clinical areas and to wash hands before and after visiting hospitals.

Hong Kong adds 9 suspected cases of Wuhan pneumonia

Hong Kong today added 9 new cases of suspected pneumonia in Wuhan.
Wuhan pneumonia is on the vicious front, the Center for Health Protection reported that as of this evening (18th), 9 new cases of suspected coronavirus have been added in Hong Kong. The patients are aged 2 to 80 years old, respectively at Princess Margaret Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital. And 5 hospitals including Prince of Wales Hospital received treatment. Among them, the 80-year-old woman who was treated in North District Hospital was in critical condition due to her own illness.
The report stated that nine new suspected cases were reported. Most of the patients were positive for human rhinovirus, adenovirus and influenza virus. The test result of the 80-year-old female patient is unknown. Since the outbreak of Wuhan pneumonia in the Mainland, Hong Kong has so far reported a total of 89 suspected cases, and public hospitals have not yet been diagnosed with the new coronavirus infection.
A HA spokesman reminded the public that public hospitals have implemented measures to limit visits. The authority advises that citizens should avoid visiting patients if they have fever symptoms or have been in close contact with patients who have symptoms of respiratory infections from areas or countries that may spread the new coronavirus. Visitors to public hospitals must wear a mask when entering the clinical area, and they must wash their hands when entering or leaving the hospital. The Bureau will continue to maintain close liaison with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and provide the public and medical staff with the latest information at any time.

As at noon today (January 19), public hospitals had reported to the Department of Health (DH) the admission of 11 patients in the past 24 hours who met the reporting criteria.

Specimens of the patients concerned have been sent to the DH for testing. Currently, there are 16 patients still under isolation. 14 patients are in stable condition, while two patients in North District Hospital are still in critical condition and serious condition respectively due to their underlying disease.

"Members of the public are advised to avoid visiting patients in ward if they have fever, or have close contact with patients with respiratory symptoms in countries/areas with possible transmission of novel coronavirus infection."

Visitors of public hospitals are also required to wear masks in all clinical areas and to wash hands before and after visiting hospitals.

The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.

Two patients in the North District Hospital are in a critical condition and serious condition, respectively due to underlying diseases, the Department of Health said today.

As of today, there are 20 patients under isolation, 18 patients are in stable condition.

There are no patients confirmed as being infected with novel coronavirus in Hong Kong's public hospitals.

As at noon today (January 21), public hospitals had reported to the Department of Health (DH) the admission of 11 patients (five male and six female, aged 8 to 82) in the past 24 hours who met the reporting criteria.

Specimens of the patients concerned have been sent to the DH for testing. Currently, there are 21 patients still under isolation, 19 patients are in stable condition, and two patients in North District Hospital are in critical condition and serious condition respectively due to their underlying diseases. One reported case in North District Hospital has passed away yesterday due to her underlying diseases and her test result for novel coronavirus was negative.

There are currently no patients confirmed as being infected with novel coronavirus in public hospitals.

The Hospital Authority (HA) earlier enhanced laboratory surveillance for pneumonia cases to have early identification of severe community-acquired pneumonia associated with novel coronavirus. The HA Central Committee on Infectious Disease and Emergency Responses (CCIDER) held an ad hoc meeting again today. It was agreed that the enhanced laboratory surveillance would be further extended to include inpatient pneumonia cases with travel history to Mainland China within 14 days before onset of symptoms.

The spokesperson for the HA reminded that restricted visiting arrangements are now imposed in all public hospitals. "Members of the public are advised to avoid visiting patients in wards if they have fever, or have close contact with patients with respiratory symptoms in countries or areas with possible transmission of novel coronavirus infection," the spokesman said.
