Cluster of Upper Respiratory Infection cases in Shatin Hospital


The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Shatin Hospital (SH) made the following announcement today (July 20):

Eleven patients (eight male and three female, aged 21 to 62) and two staff members in the male and female psychiatric rehabilitation wards presented with upper respiratory symptoms since July 8.

One of the staff members has fever.

Appropriate viral tests have been arranged and the results were negative for Influenza A and B, Parainfluenza, Rhinovirus and Respiratory Syncytial Virus.

The patients are being treated under isolation. They are all in stable condition.

Restricted visiting to the wards concerned has been imposed. The hospital has stepped up infection control measures and the condition of the other patients in the wards is under close surveillance.

The hospital has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

Update on cluster of Upper Respiratory Infection cases in Shatin Hospital


The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding the announcement earlier on a male psychiatric rehabilitation ward in which some patients had been confirmed with upper respiratory symptoms, the spokesperson for Shatin Hospital (SH) made the following update today (July 23):

One more 56-year-old patient in the ward presented with upper respiratory symptoms.

Appropriate viral tests have been arranged.

The patient concerned is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

Restricted visiting to the ward concerned has been imposed. The hospital will continue the stepped-up infection control measures and will monitor the situation closely.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
