Cluster of Rotavirus cases in a paediatric infant ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (June 10):

A total of four infants (one male and three female, aged 17 days to 2 months) at the paediatric infant ward of QEH had presented with diarrhoea symptoms since June 2.

The test results of the infants concerned were positive for Rotavirus.

They are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All exposed patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up measures.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following update today (June 12) regarding an earlier announcement on Rotavirus cases in the paediatrics infant ward:

Another baby (female; two-month-old) in the paediatrics infant ward presented with diarrhea symptom last night.

Appropriate tests were arranged for her and the test results are pending.

Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.

Another three babies (two male and one female, aged 2 weeks to 4 months) in the paediatric infant ward have presented with diarrhoea symptoms.

The test results of the infants concerned were positive for Rotavirus.

The infants are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

Of the five infants confirmed with Rotavirus earlier, three have been discharged. The rest are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

Admission to the cubicle concerned has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward has been imposed.

Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up action.
