Cluster of Rotavirus cases at United Christian Hospital


The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for the United Christian Hospital (UCH) made the following announcement today (January 21):

Five male child patients (aged from 6 months to 4 years) in the Paediatric Intensive Care and Special Care Baby Unit of the UCH have presented with diarrhoea since January 12.

Appropriate viral tests were arranged and the test results were positive for Rotavirus infection.

The patients concerned have been isolated and are in a stable condition.

Restriction on admission and visiting has been imposed.

Infection control measures have been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other child patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
