Cluster of respiratory symptoms cases in male long-stay ward in Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (June 21):

Six patients (aged 49 to 62) and a staff member at a male long-stay ward presented with respiratory symptoms since June 19. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and all test results were negative for influenza A and influenza B.

The six patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff member concerned is on sick leave.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up measures.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding the announcement earlier on a male long-stay ward in which some patients had presented with respiratory symptoms, the spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital gave the following update today (June 22):

One more 57-year-old patient in the ward has presented with respiratory symptoms.

Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results are pending.

The patient concerned is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up measures.
