Cluster of Norovirus cases in Tuen Mun Hospital


The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following announcement today (August 25):

Nine male and one female patients (aged from 3 to 94) of a Male Medical Convalescence Ward and a Paediatric Haematology Ward respectively had presented with diarrhea or vomiting symptoms since August 18.

Appropriate tests had been arranged for the patients. Seven of them were confirmed positive to Norovirus.

A seventy-year-old male patient passed away due to his own underlying illness. The other patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

All admissions to the concerned wards have been suspended.

Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following announcement today (September 11):

Three patients (aged from 77 to 92) in a male medical convalescence ward have presented with diarrhea symptoms since September 9. Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patients.

Two patients confirmed positive to Norovirus, while results for the third patient are pending.

The patients are being treated under isolation and are in a stable condition.

All admissions to the ward have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital made the following announcement today (September 13) regarding a male rehabilitation ward in which patients have been infected with Norovirus:

One more 84-year-old patient in the ward has presented with diarrhoea symptoms.

Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patient, whose test result confirmed positive to Norovirus.

The patient is being treated under isolation and is in a stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and infection control measures at the ward have been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close monitoring.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
