The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) spokesperson made the following announcement today (September 30):

Four patients (aged from 20 to 60) and two staff members of a female psychiatric ward of PYNEH have presented with symptoms of influenza like illness since September 26.

The patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition.

Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Influenza A.

One of the concerned staff members has resumed duty and the other is currently on sick leave.

Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients and staff members in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
