The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (January 24):

Six patients (aged from 23 to 59) of a male psychiatric ward of the PYNEH have presented with fever and upper respiratory infection symptoms since January 19.

Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to human swine influenza.

The patients are being treated under isolation and are prescribed with Tamiflu and are in stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding a male psychiatric ward of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in which some patients have been confirmed with Human Swine Influenza (HSI), a hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (January 26):

One more 30-year-old male patient in the ward has presented with fever.

Appropriate viral tests have been arranged and the outcome confirmed human swine influenza today.

The patient is being treated under isolation and has been prescribed with Tamiflu. He is in a stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
