A spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following announcement today (June 17):
Seven patients (aged from 20 to 46) and one female staff in a mixed mentally handicapped ward of TMH have presented with fever and respiratory symptoms since June 4. Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients. Test results of four patients were positive to human Metapneumovirus. The patients are being treated under isolation and all are in stable condition, while the staff concerned, who was on leave earlier, has already resumed duty. Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures in the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health for follow up.

Regarding some patients in a mixed ward for the mentally handicapped in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) who had recently been confirmed with human Metapneumoviral infection, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (June 18):
One more female patient (aged 20) in the ward has presented with fever and coughing symptoms.
Appropriate tests were arranged and the results are pending.
The patient is being treated under isolation and in stable condition. Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restriction on visits to and discharge from the ward has been imposed.
Infection control measures in the ward concerned have been stepped up.
All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.

Two more female patients, aged 24 and 42, in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate tests had been arranged and the test result of one patient was positive to human Metapneumovirus while the test result of the other patient is still pending. The patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition. Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restriction on visits to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures in the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
