The spokesperson for Tai Po Hospital (TPH) made the following announcement today (August 24):
Thirteen patients (aged from 30 to 70) in a male psychiatric ward at Tai Po Hospital and one staff member have presented with upper respiratory symptoms since August 9.
Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients.
Seven of them tested positive for human Metapneumovirus.
The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition, while the staff member has recovered. Admission and visits to the ward are suspended and infection control measures in the ward have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.

Regarding some cases of Human Metapneumovirus in a male psychiatric ward in Tai Po Hospital, the hospital spokesperson issued the following updates today (August 27):
Two more patients (aged 46 and 82) in the ward have presented with upper respiratory symptoms.
The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.
Admission and visits to the ward concerned have been suspended and infection control measures in the ward have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.

In addition, four patients (aged from 22 to 39) and five staff members in another male psychiatric ward had presented with upper respiratory symptoms since August 23.
Appropriate tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results are pending.
The patients are treated under isolation and are in stable condition.
Three staff members have resumed duties while the remaining two are on sick leave. Admission and visiting to the wards concerned have been suspended and infection control measures of the ward have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

Appropriate tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results are negative to Human Metapneumovirus.
The patients have been treated under isolation and are in stable condition. Admission and visiting to the wards concerned have been suspended and infection control measures of the ward have already been stepped up. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.

One more male patient (aged 49) and one staff member in the concerned ward had presented with upper respiratory symptoms.

In addition, four more patients (aged from 20 to 46) in another concerned ward had presented with upper respiratory symptoms.
Appropriate tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results of two of them are positive to Rhinovirus.
The patients have been treated under isolation and are in stable condition. Admission and visiting to the wards concerned have been suspended and infection control measures of the ward have already been stepped up. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.
