A fatal case of Vibrio vulnificus infection investigated

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a fatal case of Vibrio vulnificus infection involving a 59-year-old man with chronic illnesses.

The patient complained of fever and pain in his left calf on September 18 and was admitted to Yan Chai Hospital on September 20. His condition deteriorated and he succumbed the next day.

The patient's blood specimen, taken on September 20, grew Vibrio vulnificus.

CHP's investigation continues.
