Hong Kong health authorities are investigating a third measles case involving an aircraft maintenance worker at the airport, saying his infection is epidemiologically linked to those of two colleagues.

The Centre for Health Protection said on Monday night that the latest patient, a 37-year-old man, was likely to have contracted the disease at his workplace.

It said all three cases worked for the same company at the airport, adding that the latest patient was involved in aircraft maintenance and had no direct contact with travellers. Authorities did not specify which firm the workers were from, only saying that it was a company for aircraft maintenance and repair...

...As of 5pm on Monday, 99 people had been classified as close contacts – 31 who attended the same clinic session and 68 colleagues at the same workplace. They are under medical surveillance. As of 5pm on Tuesday, no further suspected infections were detected...

Imported measles case involving 31-year-old flight attendant confirmed as airport vaccinations begin

24th April 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection (CHP) has confirmed an imported case of measles and launched a free vaccination drive for airport staff in response to ongoing outbreaks overseas.

The patient, a 31-year-old woman previously in good health, developed fever and muscle pain on 19th April, followed by a rash on 22nd April. She sought treatment at a private clinic before being referred to the Accident and Emergency Department at North Lantau Hospital. The CHP later arranged her transfer to Princess Margaret Hospital for isolation and treatment after laboratory testing confirmed measles infection. She remains in a stable condition with mild symptoms.

Investigations revealed that she had travelled to Vietnam between 9th and 12th April during the incubation period. As Vietnam is experiencing a measles outbreak and the woman had no known contact with local cases, authorities have classified the infection as imported.

The patient, who was not born in Hong Kong but reported receiving measles vaccinations in her country of origin, works as a flight attendant. Officials said she is not linked to a recent cluster involving airport back-end support staff and had no contact with maintenance workers. She did not attend work during her infectious period, which began on April 18, and had no interaction with passengers or colleagues. She lives with one household contact and travelled with 10 relatives and friends, who are being followed up...

14‑month‑old boy diagnosed with imported measles case

30th April 2026 – (Hong Kong) A 14‑month‑old boy has been hospitalised after being diagnosed with an imported case of measles, prompting renewed calls from Hong Kong health authorities for the public to ensure they are fully vaccinated.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said the child, previously in good health, developed a fever on 22nd April and a rash four days later. He sought treatment at a private clinic on 27 April before attending the Accident and Emergency Department of Kwong Wah Hospital on 28th April with cough, runny nose and red eyes. Laboratory testing confirmed measles infection, and he remains in isolation in stable condition.

Investigations revealed that the boy had travelled to Pakistan with his parents from 19th January to 17th April. As measles outbreaks are ongoing there and no local source of infection was identified, the case has been classified as imported. Although he received his first dose of measles vaccine on 22nd April, immunity would not yet have developed, and he was not old enough for the second dose. Two household contacts developed mild upper respiratory symptoms but tested negative for the virus.

During his infectious period from 22nd to 30th April, the child visited the Kowloon City Maternal and Child Health Centre, a private clinic and Kwong Wah Hospital. As of 4pm on Wednesday, 95 close contacts had been identified and placed under medical surveillance. No secondary transmission has been detected in connection with a separate earlier cluster involving three airport backend staff...
