Honduras reports first suspected case of measles after event in Guatemala
Health authorities are maintaining epidemiological surveillance for a suspected case of measles in Honduras following a religious event in Guatemala, where six cases have already been confirmed

The Ministry of Health reported that Honduras is facing its first suspected case of measles, identified after 90 Honduran citizens participated in a religious event held in Guatemala.

The case involves a person from the department of Colón, who is exhibiting a cough, one of the symptoms associated with this viral disease, reported Lorenzo Pavón, head of Health Surveillance.

"In Honduras, we already know that people from Colón participated, and one of those people is already exhibiting a cough; we hope it is not related to measles," the official stated.

Pavón explained that the patient is under strict epidemiological surveillance, while health authorities await the appearance of more characteristic symptoms of the disease, such as white patches in the mouth and skin rashes.

He also indicated that the central and northern regions of the country have the highest concentration of people who attended the religious event in Guatemala, coming from San Pedro Sula, Comayagua, and the Central District.

The epidemiologist clarified that Honduras has not registered any confirmed cases of measles; however, he warned that Guatemala has already confirmed six cases, while Costa Rica and El Salvador have each reported one case, which keeps health authorities in the region on alert.

“Contingency points have been activated at maritime, air, and land entry points for the prevention, management, and response to measles and other public health emergencies of international concern,” Pavón explained...
