"This year we have 654 cases; last year, from week 1 to week 30, we had 596, which means we have already exceeded the infection threshold. We currently have five people admitted to the Escuela Hospital with suspected Covid-19," the medical professional said.

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.- The Ministry of Health (Sesal) of Honduras issued a statement establishing the list of places where mask use will be mandatory due to the increase in COVID-19 cases .
This increase has been recorded at the Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula and the Escuela Hospital in Tegucigalpa, reporting positivity rates of between 6% and 7%, respectively.
On July 21, Sesal warned about the emergence of a new variant of COVID-19 in the country, called XFG - also known as Stratus or "Frankenstein" - and being a subvariant of Omicron, arising from the genetic recombination of other strains.
Among the places where mask-wearing will be mandatory are supermarkets, churches, movie theaters, shopping malls, and others.

The Ministry of Health, as a preventive measure against the increase in cases of respiratory illnesses nationwide, such as influenza, pneumonia, and COVID-19, is instructing the general population and healthcare personnel to follow these instructions, in addition to the detection of the new XFG omicron sublineage and other circulating sublineages:
1. Wearing a mask correctly and in a mandatory manner is mandatory in the following places: airports, border crossings, movie theaters, gyms, shopping centers, supermarkets, churches, public and private healthcare providers, such as hospitals, health centers, medical, dental, rehabilitation, and ophthalmology clinics, pharmacies, clinical and dental laboratories, and others that provide care to the public, both for employees and users.
2. Spaces where physical distancing of at least one point five meters (1.5 m) cannot be maintained, when these are closed, crowded, and poorly ventilated spaces.
3. Public and private educational centers of all levels.
4. Government institutions, centralized and decentralized, public and private, such as employees and users of the banking system, factories, maquilas, public and private transportation systems, among others.
5. If you experience respiratory symptoms and signs, go to the health facility nearest to your home, where you will be advised of the appropriate treatment.
6. People who have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine, or who have not completed their vaccination schedule, are urged to go to health facilities to get vaccinated.
