Honduras recorded first child with microcephaly associated with the Zika virus
Responsible of a public hospital Honduran announced on Friday that it was registered the first case of a child with microcephaly associated with the Zika virus in Honduras, a country that accounts for more than 11,400 people infected.
Gonzalo Maradiaga, hospital director Gabriela Alvarado, in the city of Danli (east), told the media that the baby was born by natural childbirth at 03:00 local (09:00 GMT (Lisbon) at the hospital.
The mother, 23, had contact with the virus in the first three months of pregnancy, she had to, and did not undergo any medical examination before delivery.
The microcephaly is a serious congenital malformation that causes the baby is born with a skull and brain size lower than normal.
