DEATH ACCOMPLICES

Honduran Cardinal ?scar Andr?s Rodr?guez said today that the person who leaves his house without wearing a mask is "an accomplice to the death by COVID-19" of other people.

"The irresponsible who go out into the street without the mask, those who do not seek biosecurity measures, those do not have Christ alive," stressed the religious during a mass without faithful who officiated in the Minor Basilica of the Virgin of Suyapa, patron saint from Honduras.

These people who do not wear a mask when leaving their homes also 'are complicit in the fact that others are going to lose their lives, "Rodr?guez emphasized.

Honduras registers 138 dead and 2,565 infected with COVID-19
Drafting
05/17/2020 05:37

Tegucigalpa, May 16 (EFE) .- The COVID-19 already leaves in Honduras 138 dead and 2,565 infected cases, most of them distributed in the northern and central regions of the country, according to the last statistical summary of this Saturday of the National System Risk Management (Sinager).

The report, presented on the national radio and television network, indicates that laboratory analyzes confirmed four new deaths, bringing it to 138, as well as 105 positive cases with the disease, from 531 PCR tests, to add 2,565 to Nacional level.

For the second time, since March, the department of Francisco Moraz?n, in the center of the country, where the capital, Tegucigalpa, is located, appears as the one with the most cases in one day, 61, followed by Cort?s, with 27, in the north , which is the one with the highest incidence with sick and dead by coronavirus.

The peak of the pandemic continues to rise due to the few daily laboratory tests that continue to be carried out in the Central American country, which, at most, have rarely exceeded 500.

According to doctors who are in the front line in the fight against COVID-19, the country needs to perform between 2,000 and 3,000 daily PCR tests, which is not possible due to the poor health system that Honduras has always had, while the strategy of the Government before the current pandemic, has not given the expected results, in the opinion of various sectors.

The Sinager also registered 14 new cases of recovered patients today, with a total of 378.

The four new deceased are a 43-year-old woman and three men aged 31, 47 and 54, according to the Sinager report, which also noted that many children infected with coronavirus have also been registered in the country, some of them only a few days old.

Of the total infected so far, there are 289 hospitalized, of which 13 are serious, 20 in intensive care units and 256 in stable condition.

The situation is worrying among Hondurans, who know how the pandemic is spreading every day, including staff from institutions that are participating in the fight against the coronavirus, such as doctors, nurses, auxiliaries, police, the military and firefighters, among others.

This week, in the city of San Pedro Sula, about twenty infected elderly people were registered in a municipal asylum in San Pedro Sula, where at least three died of a coronavirus and the results of tests are expected for two others.

In the National Penitentiary, located about 20 kilometers north of Tegucigalpa, a case of an inmate with coronavirus was confirmed today, indicated the National Penitentiary Institute (INP).

This is an inmate of 11 who arrived at that prison on April 30, so they have been kept isolated and under health surveillance since then, confirming today a positive case with the disease among the group, the agency said.

Following the pandemic, a curfew has been in effect in the country since mid-March, which has been spreading every week, the last one until May 17, although it is still unknown if tomorrow will be prolonged, which apparently is what more likely, according to medical sources. EFE

Honduras decrees state of emergency in prison for positive case of COVID-19
05/20/2020 04:32

Tegucigalpa, May 19 (EFE) .- The Honduran National Penitentiary Institute declared on Tuesday a state of emergency in the prison of the municipality of El Porvenir, near Tegucigalpa, and announced its closure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, after confirming the contagion of a prisoner.

The prison authorities reported the measure in a statement indicating that as of today the El Porvenir prison, in the central department of Francisco Moraz?n, will not receive prisoners sent by the different courts, and that the prison will be closed.

The decision was made by the Penitentiary Institute after one of the prisoners tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, while five others remain in an isolation zone.

On May 14, six prisoners "presented respiratory symptoms and feverish symptoms", so they were isolated in the penal center and then the authorities coordinated with health officials to carry out COVID-19 tests, in which one of the patients tested positive. them, the statement said.

The inmate who tested positive is "in the area for care and treatment for people suspected or confirmed with the virus."

Medical personnel working in Honduran prisons "impart preventive and illustrative talks to the people in custody, as well as to the operating and administrative personnel, on the symptoms, treatment and management of patients with COVID-19," according to the Penitentiary Institute. .

The prison authorities indicated that this institution has been applying biosecurity protocols established by the World Health Organization (WHO) since December 2019.

The Honduran Penitentiary Institute declared a state of emergency last weekend at the National Penitentiary, the country's main prison, after confirming the first case of illness in an inmate therein.

On April 20, a 52-year-old prisoner died of a coronavirus in the Ilama prison, in the department of Santa B?rbara, in the west of the country.

Although the prisoners have not received visits since mid-March according to the INP, the Honduran authorities have proceeded to carry out a massive collection of samples among the inmates to confirm possible cases of coronavirus.

Honduras so far registers 2,798 positive cases of COVID-19, 146 deceased and 340 recovered, according to official figures. EFE

Honduran Congress approves mandatory use of the mask before Covid-19
A report from the Ministry of Health with figures updated as of this Wednesday details that 3,100 confirmed cases are reported in Honduras.
Posted May 21 2020

The regulations oblige all people, without exception, to implement biosafety practices and protocols throughout the national territory.

The Honduran National Congress approved this Thursday the Law on the Mandatory Use of Masks and the Application of Biosafety Protocols, "which will minimize the risk of contagion and spread" of Covid-19, according to official information released by the legislature.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the regulation requires all people, without exception, to implement biosecurity practices and protocols throughout the national territory, both in public spaces and in private meetings that exceed five people.

The text precisely defines which are the public and private establishments where the Law must be complied with, as well as the imposition of a fine of 200 lempiras ($ 8) or the obligation to carry out community work for six hours for those who violate it for first time.

Repeat offenders will be subjected to more severe sanctions, such as prison or the suspension of government aid, while the authorities assure that these citizens will be provided with a mask.

National press media indicate that the measure could be the prelude to a "smart reopening plan" of economic activities in the country, planned by the Executive for June 1, gradually in each municipality, corresponding to the impact by the pandemic.

However, the country could still show a complex reality in the face of effective control of Covid-19, due to the fact that the health authorities do not know when the maximum peak of infections will occur.

A report from the Ministry of Health with figures updated as of this Wednesday details that 3,100 confirmed cases, 151 fatalities and 355 recovered are reported in Honduras.
