Cholera outbreak in Hoima district
----------------------------------
To date, 8 suspected cases of cholera have been reported in Nkondo Parish, in Kabwoya sub-county in Hoima district.

The district health inspector, Frederick Byenume, told journalists that 8 people had been admitted to Sebigoro Health Centre III in Kabwoya sub-county. He said the patients had diarrhea, were passing out blood, and vomiting.

However, Byenume said no deaths had been recorded and 4 patients had been discharged. The rest, he added, are undergoing treatment and showing signs of improvement.

[A suspected cholera outbreak has been reported in Hoima district in Uganda, close to the shores of Lake Albert. Laboratory confirmation is pending but given the clinical presentation as highlighted in the report, it is worth including bacillary dysentery as a differential diagnosis. Additional information on the definitive diagnosis will be appreciated.
