HK suspends import of poultry products from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (December 22) announced that it has suspended processing applications for import of all poultry and poultry products, including poultry eggs, from the Province of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany with immediate effect until further notice.

"The decision was made after receiving notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza H5 in a farm detected in Schleswig-Holstein," a CFS spokesman said.

"We are seeking further information from the relevant German authority and will closely monitor the situation," the spokesman added.
