HK: Cluster of Influenza A cases in Castle Peak Hospital

Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (May 18):

Four patients (aged 19 to 63) in a female ward for intellectual disability had presented with flu symptoms since May 17. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results of three patients were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and are in stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed.

Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

Regarding the recent confirmation of a number of patients with respiratory symptoms in a female ward for intellectual disability, the spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following update today (May 20):

One more female patient (aged 30) in the ward had presented with flu symptoms. Appropriate viral test had been arranged for the patient and the test result of the patient was positive to Influenza A. The concerned patient has been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and is in stable condition.

The spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital made the following announcement today (May 23):

Five patients (aged 18 to 68) and a staff member in a general adult psychiatric male ward had presented with flu symptoms since May 21. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results for four patients were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation and four of them have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital. All patients are in stable condition. The staff member concerned is on sick leave.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

Regarding the announcement yesterday on a number of patients in a general adult psychiatric male ward confirmed with Influenza A, the spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following update today (May 24):

Six more patients (aged 26 to 75) in the ward had presented with flu symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients. Three of the patients tested positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
