Shimla, Oct 19(PTI) High peaks of Lahaul and Spiti continued to remain under snow cover today, while cold winds blowing across lower areas further dropped temperature marginally in Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh.

Though there was no report of snowfall since last night, snow deposit remained on high peaks in the high altitude district, a report Lahaul and Spiti, Met department officials said.

Cool breeze further dropped mercury in Shimla. The Queen of Hills recorded a maximum temperature of 18.6 degree Celsius, as compared to 19.4 degree Celsius yesterday.

There was a minor fall in temperature elsewhere too.

While Sundernagar registered a high of 28.3 degree Celsius, it was 26.8 degree Celsius in Bhuntar, 15.3 degree Celsius at Kalpa and 24.6 degree Celsius at Dharamsala, the sources said.

Weathermen have forecast mainly dry weather in the state tomorrow.

SOLAN/MOHALI: Binu Gupta, 48, became the first H1NI influenza victim from Himachal Pradesh when she died at a private hospital in Mohali on Sunday
evening. As a preventive measure, health authorities quarantined 53 people, including doctors and paramedical staff, who had come in contact with her in Mohali and Solan district, where she belonged.

A resident of Saproon, Gupta had been suffering from pneumonia-like symptoms since October 11. Complaining of fever, cold and breathing problems, she initially took medicines from a family doctor but when there was no improvement in her condition, she was admitted to Zonal Hospital, Solan, on October 15. Keeping her under observation for some half an hour, doctors soon referred her to PGI, Chandigarh, but her family chose to admit her on October 16 to a private hospital, where she died at 8.40 pm the next day.
?The deceased had been referred to PGI as her condition was serious. Some 33 people, who came in contact with her, have been quarantined and kept under surveillance,? said Solan chief medical officer Ashok Tagra. Suspecting Gupta to be suffering from swine flu, doctors in Mohali had even sent her samples to PGI for testing on Sunday morning. ?By evening, H1NI was confirmed but she soon breathed her last,? said health authorities in Mohali. Sealing the ward where the deceased was admitted, district health officer Dr SP Surila said, ?This is the first swine flu death in Mohali. As a safety measure, the ward, where the woman was admitted, has been sealed, with patients from there being shifted to other rooms. We have kept 20 people, including Gupta?s husband and brother, doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital, isolated and begun their treatment.?

Woman dies of swine flu at IGMC Shimla

Shimla, Dec 7 (PTI) A 23-year-old woman of Mandi district of the state died of swine flu today at Indira Gandhi Medical college and hospital here, the first death due to the dreaded disease in the state.*

Guddi Devi, a housewife of Betchwa village of Mandi died of swine flu at IGMC, Deputy Medical Superintendent Ramesh Kumar told PTI.

She came to IGMC on December 3 after complaining of serious breathing trouble and her test at IGMC laboratory yesterday confirmed swine flu, he said.

Earlier, two women of the state had died of the dreaded disease outside the state. Another woman, a resident of Shimla town, who tested positive of the H1N1 virus has been admitted at IGMC and undergoing treatment.

The woman has been put in a separate ward and her family has been quarantined, Kumar added.

A 22-year-old pregnant woman today succumbed to swine flu virus at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla, recording the first H1N1 death in the state.

This is the third swine flu death of a Himachal resident ? the earlier two victims, both residents of Solan, had died in Chandigarh. A total of 188 cases have so far confirmed swine flu positive in the state.

Guddi Devi, a resident of Janjheli in Mandi, was admitted to the IGMC on December 3.

She was under treatment for pneumonia and when she did not respond to the treatment for two days, doctors recommended a swine flu test.

Significantly, though she tested positive on Sunday, the hospital administration and the health authorities did not reveal her status and she continued to remain at the ICU of the medicine department, where five more patients were also undergoing treatment.

Shimla, Dec 9 (IANS) One more person died of swine flu in Himachal Pradesh Wednesday, taking the toll to four, a health official said.
?A middle-aged man who had been admitted to Shimla?s Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital for quite some time died this (Wednesday) morning due to swine flu. He was tested positive for the virus Tuesday,? swine flu nodal officer Vinod Mehta told IANS.

He said this was the fourth death in the state due to H1N1 virus. So far, 17 patients have tested positive for swine flu.

Shimla and Solan districts in the state reported the maximum number of swine flu cases.

Shimla, Dec 9 (PTI) A housewife and a 56-year-old man died of swine flu in Himachal Pradesh, raising death toll in the viral disease to six in the hill state.

After yesterday's fatalities, the government today alerted district health officials to spread awareness against the dreaded disease.

Ram Kishan Sharma died at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) Shimla last night, Medical Superintendent Ramesh Kumar told PTI.

Indu Devi, a housewife of Hamirpur district, succumbed last night at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda in Kangra district, he said.

While a 23-year-old housewife of Mandi district had died of the disease at IGMC on Monday last, three women -- two of Solan and one Nurpur in Kangra -- had died in hospitals outside the state earlier.

Manali shopkeeper die of swine flu

Shimla, Dec 10 (PTI) A shopkeeper in Manali died of swine flu taking death toll due to the dreaded viral disease to seven in Himachal Pradesh.

The shopkeeper identified as Umesh died of swine flu at a hospital in Ludhiana in Punjab, a report quoting official sources said today at Manali.

Umesh (32), a native of Rangri village, about 7 kilometre from Manali, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital there was referred to PGI Chandigarh yesterday but due to non-availability of ventilator he had to go to CMC Ludhiana, where he died last night, the sources said.

With death of Umesh, a total of seven Himachalis have died of swine flu so far. Four persons, who tested positive for H1N1 virus are undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla, Medical Superintendent Ramesh Kumar told PTI.

Another lady, suspected to be suffering from swine flu, died in Hamirpur district, which has raise the number of deaths to two in the district and eight in the state. She was admitted at Hamirpur regional hospital on Wednesday and later taken to Tanda medical college where she breathed her last this morning.

The deceased Sunita Devi, a resident of Garaha village under Kala Amb panchayat, was a teacher at government school, Sameer Pur, the ancestral village of Chief Minister PK Dhumal.

It is notable that another lady Indu Bala, earlier referred from regional hospital here and later confirmed of having swine flu, had also died at Tanda medical college a week ago.

If confirmed positive, this death would raise the number of swine flu deaths to eight in the state.

Sunita Devi was reportedly admitted at regional hospital with high fever on Wednesday at about 9 am.

Confirming the death, chief medical officer (CMO) Dr DS Chandel said, ?Sunita Devi was admitted in the hospital suffering from pneumonia with high fever and symptoms of swine flu also. She was tested for H1N1 and also put on tamiflu.?

Her condition began to deteriorate in the evening and the health authorities suggested attendants of the patient to put her on respiratory system. However, they sought her discharge and later took her to Tanda medical college where she died this morning.

Meanwhile, the CMO said the department had asked health authorities to hold swine flu awareness camps at Sameer Pur and Garaha villages.

Shimla, Dec 22 (IANS) One patient died of influenza A (H1N1) in Himachal Pradesh, taking the state?s toll to 11, officials said Tuesday.
A woman of Bhoranj town in Hamirpur district died Tuesday due to the H1NI virus at the Regional Hospital in Hamirpur, swine flu nodal officer Vinod Mehta said.

The woman was admitted to the hospital Monday, he said.

One more positive case of the virus was admitted to Shimla?s Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital Tuesday.

Mehta said that the patient belonged to Karsog in Mandi district.

So far, Himachal Pradesh has reported 11 swine flu deaths and 36 positive cases.

Paonta Sahib (Nahan): National institute of communicable diseases (NICD) Delhi has finally confirmed the first swine flu death in the district Sirmour in Himachal, whereas 5 years child was also found positive. Sources said that district health department has received a communication from the NICD which has confirmed that 30 years Yusuf of Amarkoat village in Paonta Sahib was died due to the swine flu. The report has also stated that the 5 years son Tohiab of Yusuf was also suffering with the swine flu as the samples of Nasal swab of Tohiab was also found positive. The health department had started the investigation over the suspected death of Yusuf on 7th December. The report was supposed to be come on 11th December but it was received on Tuesday. At initial stage the Yusuf was admitted in the private Puran hospital at Paonta sahib from where he was shifted to Doon hospital in Uttrakhand. Sources further said that the condition of 5 years Tohaib is stable, who was also shifted to Doon hospital after the suspected death of his father. Sources also said that more than 20 patients who were staying around the Yusuf were also being under treatment at Doon hospital Deharadun in an isolated ward. Sources of the health department also said that the treatment of chemoprophylaxis was being given to the patients admitted in the hospital who were staying close to deceased Yusuf. Sources said that though the district health department was waiting for the report of NICD but the authorities of the health department in neighboring state Uttrakhand had not taken any risk and the precautionary measures were being taken immediately. Sources also said that a team of doctors would reach in the area on Wednesday. Though Paonta sahib area was adjoining to Uttrakhand, so people preferre to go in hospitals located in Uttrakhand. Sources further said that recently several cases of swine flu were reported in Yamuna Nagar of Haryana, whereas there was a distance of sixty kilometers of Paonta sahib from this town of Haryana so there was a need of high precaution in the area. The Paonta sahib valley was also being surrounded by Utter Pardesh with Haryana and Uttrakhand. Sources said that due to the border area the department had to be taken some additional steps pertaining to swine flu cases in the neighboring states. When contacted, District Surveillance officer Dr Sanjay Sharma confirmed that a report is received from NICD which has confirmed the first swine flu death in the district. He also confirmed that his son was also found positive.

?A 38-year-old woman died at the Shimla?s Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital last (Tuesday) evening due to swine flu. She was admitted to the hospital Tuesday,? swine flu nodal officer Vinod Mehta told IANS.

He said the patient died within a few hours after being admitted to the hospital. She belonged to this town.

?Her samples were sent for examination yesterday (Tuesday). This (Wednesday) afternoon her samples tested positive for flu,? he added.

He said that so far 16 people have died due to the H1N1 virus in the state.

?Till now 43 people have tested positive for the disease,? he added.

6 suffering from fever test positive



With the throat swab samples of people suffering from a ?mysterious fever? in the villages of Chopal in Shimla district testing positive for swine flu (H1N1), the government pressed the panic button on Tuesday and sent out three medical teams to the area. The affected villages in interiors of Chopal are nearly 150 kilometres from Shimla.



Tamiflu medicine supplies for a population of nearly 300 to 500 people have been rushed to the five specifically suspected villages from where the samples tested positive. Three ambulances have also been deputed to rush patients to hospital, if required.



Four of the six patients who tested positive for swine flu are in the age group of six to 12 years. They have been put on home quarantine. Two of the children are from the family of Chet Ram of Judu Shalal village in Kupvi, which lost two minor girls last week to high fever.
A high-level review meeting was called by Health Minister Rajeev Bindal after the test reports confirmed swine flu.



Bindal directed to depute three extra teams of doctors to survey each and every household in the area and teams were sent from Solan, Shimla and Nahan, said Integrated Disease Surveillance Project head Dr Vinod Mehta.



In a statement issued later, Bindal said the blood culture report of the patients were awaited, while tests for jaundice had been found negative.



?The cases found positive were asymptomatic ? no visible symptoms of swine flu ? and had only mild fever in the last few days,? said Dr Mehta.

Shimla, April 13 (IANS) Four new swine flu cases have been reported in Himachal Pradesh after a gap of over a month, a health official said here Tuesday.

?Four children in the age group of 6 to 12 tested positive today (Tuesday) for swine flu at Kupvi village in the interior of Shimla district,? swine flu nodal officer Vinod Mehta told IANS.

With this, the number of Influenza A (H1N1) cases in the state has risen to 50.

?Sixteen people have died due to the virus in the state since October last year,? he added.

One more swine flu case in Himachal


A man has tested positive for swine flu in Himachal Pradesh, taking the number of H1N1 cases in the state to 10 this year, an official said Friday.

'A middle-aged man from Mandi district tested positive for swine flu and was admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) on Thursday,' Vinod Mehta, swine flu nodal officer, told IANS.

He said the patient, a truck driver by profession, had recently returned from Delhi.

This is the second case of swine flu in the state within a week. A 34-year-old man died in IGMCH Aug 19 due to the flu.

Health Minister Rajeev Bindal had informed the state assembly in a written reply Aug 17 that 50 people have tested positive for swine flu out of 206 samples collected from August 2009 to July 31, 2010.

'The toll due to the disease in the state (till July 31) was 16. Out of these, 10 patients who belonged to the state died in hospitals outside the state,' he said.

Shimla: A woman has tested positive for swine flu in Solan town of Himachal Pradesh, taking the number of H1N1 cases in the state to 11 this year, an official said here today.

Swine flu nodal Officer Vinod Mehta told HimVani that a 30-year-old woman from Solan district tested positive for the virus as she was admitted to Zonal Hospital, Solan, on Friday. The infected person had recently returned from Gujarat on August 24 and was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of vomiting and fever, while she tested positive for H1N1 virus on Saturday.

A team of experts has been rushed to the town to check further spread as Solan district has been worst affected by H1N1 virus in the past. This is the third swine flu in the state within a fortnight.
