• Epidemiological comments
  • On 27 December 2010, the movement restriction within 10 km around the affected farm was lifted.
  • Prior to the lifting, HPAI freedom surveillances were conducted twice in the zone.
  • They were composed of clinical inspections targeted at all poultry and captive wild birds in the zone as well as virus isolations and serological tests based on randomised sampling.
  • For the first surveillance a total of 126 farms and institutions were surveyed with negative results between 30 November 2010 and 8 December 2010.
  • For the second surveillance a total of 136 farms and institutions were surveyed with negative results between 15 December 2010 and 20 December 2010.
  • The reason why the number of the second surveillance was different from one of the first surveillance was that one farm closed the business and 11 institutions keeping captive wild birds were additionally surveyed.
  • In addition, a total of 1,192 samples of faeces dropped by wild birds and 100 swabs taken from captured wild birds were tested by PCR tests with negative results of influenza A subtype H5N1.
