GEORGETOWN, Guyana: The Ministry of Health in Guyana has indicated that there are reports that approximately 300 people are affected by dengue in that country.
The Kaieteur News newspaper stated that, having been alerted by the outbreak of the fever in neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago, the ministry has intensified its surveillance and discovered the large number of individuals affected.
It is the highest number of dengue cases in the Republic since 1998.
A statement from the Ministry of Health said that the Health Department would ensure that an adequate standard of treatment was given to those affected and that steps were being taken to prevent others from being infected.
The Mosquito Control Programme is also expected to be revamped.
