Jos? Henrique, 6, died last Sunday after the family seek medical attention four times

The Secretary of Health of [Rio Preto] will determine whether the boy's death Jos? Henrique da Silva, 6, was caused by the H1N1 virus. The result of the autopsy showed that the cardiorespiratory arrest that led the boy to death was caused by pneumonia.

Blood collected from the boy's body was sent to Sao Paulo, where he will be examined by the Institute Adolfo Lutz. There are no provisions for the delivery of test results.

Jos? Henrique died on Sunday at a health district of Santo Ant?nio. The family sought treatment four times between the 29th of April and the date of death and accused health professionals of negligence.

The registry opened administrative proceedings to determine if there was some kind of irregularity in attending to the boy. In addition to the professionals who treated the child, family will be heard in the process.

If any irregularity is found, the final report of the case will be forwarded to the CRM (Conselho Regional de Medicina) of Black River, which define possible punishments.

Death by flu is investigated within SP
Local officials suspect medical negligence

The Health Secretariat of Sao Jose do Rio Preto, 451 km from Sao Paulo reported the first case of death caused by influenza A (H1N1), known as swine flu. Another six people contracted the disease in the municipality.

The death of Jos? Henrique da Silva of six years, is being investigated by police and health of the city.

The first finding reported last week that the boy died of pneumonia. But after a review of the Institute Adolfo Lutz, the cause of death has been confirmed as the flu.

Before he died, on May 3, the child went through five care units and emergency rescue. Family of boy spent the last two days giving evidence at the 4th Precinct, where he confirmed that the boy was treated and released without doctors asked examinations to diagnose the disease.

The incident is being investigated by an audit committee of the Health Secretariat of Sao Jose do Rio Preto and inquiry opened by the mayor, who promised to punish those professionals who may have committed mistakes in services to the boy.

The delegate from the 4th Precinct, Valdir Carvalho, expected this week to receive reports and records of visits to health professionals to call for testimony. According to the delegate, if proven negligence or deficiency in services to the boy, those responsible would be prosecuted for manslaughter, whose penalty can reach three years' imprisonment.

After this event, the city population distrusts the ability of the city in diagnosing influenza. The coordinator for the Epidemiological Monitoring of the city, Luciano Louren??o, recognizes this difficulty, but says there is diagnosed.

- Inside that today is already known about the disease, the service is prepared to meet this demand.
