Notable Fact: serious cases of flu hospitalized in resuscitation: start of the winter monitoring 2013-14

monitoring of serious cases of influenza during the influenza season 2012-13 has allowed us to identify 823 serious cases in France whose 7 in Midi-Pyrenees (1 %) thanks to the participation of the services of resuscitation. The number of serious cases of influenza identified the last winter was higher than that of the two previous seasons (respectively 326 the winter 2011-12 including 7 in Midi-Pyrenees and 780 the winter 2010-11 including 21 in Midi-Pyrenees ) but lower than that of the pandemic of 2009-2010, In the course of which 1,305 cases of influenza had been identified in service of resuscitation (including 42 in Midi-Pyrenees ). Serious cases of flu admitted in intensive care in 2012-13 were predominantly related to a type A viruses (68 % ), of which 67% to the virus A(H1N1)pdm09. The lethality was comparable to that observed the years trot (19% in 2012-13). The influenza epidemic in the community has been marked by a duration particularly long (13 weeks) with co-movement of 3 influenza viruses.
It therefore seems important to the Invs to renew the surveillance of serious cases of flu in resuscitation (adult and pediatric) for the season 2013-14. This monitoring has started the first week of November (week 45) under conditions identical with those of last year (sheet of alert to return by responders to the wax Midi-Pyrenees ).
The main objectives of this system are:
- to follow the weekly number of serious cases to measure l ' Impact of the epidemic; -
To describe the epidemiological characteristics of serious cases to adapt where appropriate control measures; -
D ' estimate the efficacy of the vaccine used this season against the serious forms of flu . We thank you in advance and already the partners of this surveillance: the laboratories of the CHU of Toulouse (virology) and of the CH of Cahors and the services of resuscitation of Midi-Pyrenees (CHIVA, CH Rodez, CH Millau, CHU Toulouse, Pasteur clinic, Clinic of the Union, the Polyclinic Park, Clinic of Occitania, Cedres Clinic, CH St-Gaudens , CH Auch, CH Cahors, CH Tarbes, CH Lourdes, CH Albi, Claude Bernard, CH Castres-Mazamet , CH Montauban, Clinical Bridge of thatch).
