MINOT (AP) ? State and federal health officials are investigating an outbreak of hepatitis C cases in Ward County centered around a Minot nursing home.

Three cases initially were identified in August, according to the North Dakota Department of Health. Since then, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has linked four additional cases to the first three. Samples from 28 more people have been sent to the CDC to be tested, and there is the possibility that more people might be referred for testing...

Hepatitis confirmed in Ward County

The North Dakota Department of Health received confirmation Thursday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that testing had been completed on blood samples from additional individuals in the hepatitis C outbreak investigation in Ward County.

The CDC has confirmed that 21 additional cases are related to the seven cases that had previously been identified, bringing the total number of related cases to 28. As the investigation progresses, more people will likely be tested, the state Health Department said...

MINOT, N.D. ? Eight more people from the Minot, N.D., area have testified positive for a strain of hepatitis C in an outbreak for which the source has yet to be identified, the North Dakota Health Department said Tuesday.

State epidemiologist Tracy Miller said 35 people have been infected, but the additional positive tests are not new infections. About 500 people associated with a nursing home have been tested so far and more could be tested as investigators look for a cause, she said...

All 44 cases involve current or former residents of ManorCare Health Services. They say it either came from podiatry or blood draw services through Trinity Health or nail care services at ManorCare...

Outbreak affects current, former Manor Care residents

The news about its existence may have gone quiet for a short time, but the outbreak of hepatitis C is still being investigated at Manor Care Health Services in Minot.

In a news release issued on Dec. 27, the North Dakota Department of Health announced preliminary findings from the outbreak of the hepatitis C investigation. "The goal of this investigation was to identify modes of transmission or risk factors associated with hepatitis C in this population and stop ongoing transmission," said Tracy Miller, state epidemiologist for the North Dakota Department of Health. "At this time we still do not fully understand how transmission occurred..."

A 47th person has been diagnosed with Hepatitis-C related to the outbreak in Minot.

The North Dakota Department of Health announced today the 47th case is similar to the 46th case - the patient had no contact with ManorCare.

All of the first 45 cases identified in the outbreak had been in residents or former residents of Manor Care.

The 46th and 47th are residents of Somerset Court in Minot...

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - State health officials say an additional case has been linked to a hepatitis C outbreak in Minot, bringing the total to 51.

The Health Department says the case isn't associated with residency at ManorCare nursing home. At least 47 of the reported cases have been in former or current residents of that facility.

Health officials say there has been no evidence of disease transmission at ManorCare in Minot since the fall of 2013...
