The Western Local Health Network has reminded Mid-Western residents to protect themselves from all strands of influenza through vaccination and general hygiene measures.
The reminder comes after one case of swine flu was diagnosed at Mudgee High School recently. Late last week another case was under investigation at the school.
Public health nurse consultant Carol George said swine flu is just another strand of influenza and all residents should be taking preventative measures.
?It?s ?flu season so it?s not surprising there has been a case of swine flu,? she said.
?It?s something we come to expect at this time of year as we do with all kinds of flu and other diseases such as whooping cough.?
The consultant said the ?best prevention is vaccination? but there were many other measures to prevent the onset of flu.
?If you are stick then stay home. It?s that simple,? she said.
?If you are coughing and sneezing then do so into a tissue and dispose of it properly.
?If you can?t access a tissue then sneeze into your upper arm.?
Ms George said the current influenza vaccination will include the swine flu strand among others.
Mudgee High School has advised all students who have flu like symptoms to stay home until well and to contact their doctor for specific advice.
