Hawaiʻi DOH reports second confirmed travel-related-dengue virus case of 2026

The Hawai‘i Department of Health has identified a new travel-related dengue virus case on Oʻahu, bringing the total number of dengue cases in the state for 2026 to two. The first case was identified earlier this month on Maui. Both affected individuals were exposed to the virus while traveling in a region where dengue is common.

DOH teams have been deployed to conduct inspections and implement mosquito control measures in the affected area. The public is encouraged to follow best practices to help prevent local transmission, as outlined below.​..

3rd case of dengue has been iden­tified on Oahu

The Hawaii Department of Health has confirmed the third newest case of travel-related dengue on Oahu, according to a news release.

What You Need To Know
The first dengue virus case of 2026 was reported on Feb. 13 on Maui; the second was confirmed on Feb. 23 on Oahu
As with the third case, the two previous individuals were exposed to dengue while traveling
Dengue is not endemic (established) in Hawaii, but mosquitoes can carry the virus
Individuals returning from dengue areas should avoid mosquito bites for three weeks

HONOLULU (Island News) -- The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) reported the sixth travel-related dengue fever case in the state this year.

The infected person recently returned to Oahu after traveling to a region where dengue is common. The expected risk of transmission is low due to specifics surrounding this case.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new travel-related dengue virus case was identified on Oʻahu — increasing the number of reported dengue cases in 2026 to seven.

DOH said the individual was exposed to the virus while traveling internationally in an area where dengue is common and confirmed there was no connection to any prior cases in Hawaiʻi.​..
