Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Happy 5th Anniversary to all your wonderful folks at the FluTrackers community. Thank you Sharon Sanders *great site w/ a great leader, and thanks to all the mods, to Sally and Tonka and RoRo and RWilmer and Dutchy and kiwibird and Pathfinder and Shiloh and Toto, and Muscade, and JimO and Makoto and Arkanoid and MissouriWatcher and Tetano and German Doctor, and Ironorekeeper and Anne and AlaskaDenise and Niko and TreyFish...and so many others I've forgotten to mention. YOU'VE all done a great service to the global efforts to keep professionals and citizens informed of changes to our planet, understanding its pathogens and the dynamics involved in pandemics and regional outbreaks of terrible diseases.
May God and the angels keep you all safe and bless you.

Thanks JC! I was so worried about you in the New Zealand earthquake. I think most people do not know that the disaster is ongoing and many large aftershocks have increased the damage in the last few months. Luckily no one was killed but the emotional and mental stress of a continuing natural disaster can be huge. Take care of yourself.

You are a great humanitarian with your volunteer and advocacy work.

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Congratulations Flutrackers.com and Sharon Sanders for all the success achieved in this leading website for information on emerging diseases!

This website is a very useful tool for professionals and people interested in health, social and media topics related to illnesses. I think is one of the best places on the internet for being well informed. This site give us to "medical workers" a unique opportunity to discuss and add new information and transmit our opinion about different subjects related to emerging diseases.

I would like to thank all the people behind those "nicknames" who make possible this ambitious project always based on solidarity of the people that spend hours a day searching and posting really good information on FT and other friend forum/blogs.

Thank you for everything!

--------

Also, You can see my congratulatory post in Spanish

CopitoSP thanks for helping us with the Spanish forum. We are especially concerned about health care workers as these are the people who bear the most of the burden in any emergency. Recently in Egypt, many health care workers donated their time at a health care clinic set up in Tahrir square. Humanitarians all.

Thank you for your offer to help us!

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Thank you for your kind comments about me Sharon )) We're still shaking here in Christchurch, NZ, and it has been a very tough 5 months now since the 7+ quake, but we're glad to be witness to the great progress going on in Egypt and Tunisia. You and the great work of FT helps spread freedom and democracy as well as best practices. Congrats again ))

Merci Anne pour tout! Vous avez été l'un des premiers membres en 2006 pour aider à construire la bibliothèque scientifique. Vous avez été un très bon ami à FT.

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

A belated happy anniversary to all, and especially to you, Sharon. I am forever grateful for your help and your kindness when things have been difficult elsewhere. You have been a great friend. Special thanks also to my good buddy, Mike Coston who has given me more than I can ever repay. I also want to thank Laidback Al for his continued help and for having my back so many times.

My heartfelt thanks to ALL of my fellow flutrackers! I am proud to be on the same team. You are a great bunch of folks, and I know that I could never have provided this important information to my healthcare colleagues without your many hours of work and dedication. I am truly indebted to you.

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Happy Birthday!
Tons of hard workers on this site ,I will say that for sure. Many have come and gone, but most have hung in there, watching disease from all over the world. My geography sure has improved since trackin H5N1 and other nasties! 5 YEARS!!..Sometimes feels like 25 yrs! If the reporting of disease outbreaks were more forthcoming and timely, Flutrackers and other sites would not be so needed..but I don't see that coming down the road anytime soon. Bird flu was the main interest in the beginning, but it did'nt take long to find out how bad things were in other countries and how they were hidden by their gov't officials.
BF is back in the news again and some countries are having SEVERE outbreaks in farm birds. Stay on your toes!:tiphat:

Blue - thank you for being a pioneer on the internet in public health. Your work on one of the largest health care workers forums in the world (over 450,000 members) made many aware of pandemic awareness and preparedness issues before their own employers did.

I really enjoyed meeting you in Boston and always look forward to our phone conversations.

Your gentle spirit is much appreciated.

Treyfish - What can I say? You are a force on the internet. I have really enjoyed getting to know you. From the first time we met when you and your girlfriend hosted me for breakfast - to the meetings in Washington, it is always a fun time!

Thank you for everything that you have done for pandemic awareness and preparedness. You always "tell it like it is".

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Gee - 5 years already?

I'm so glad I discovered and joined FT 5 years ago. Not only have I made good friends and learned a lot of valuable things, but I've learned valuable skills that I KNOW have saved my life.

I can't help but compare FT to the current Egypt situation. Egyptians had a great dream, were inspired by certain leaders, and utilized social media tools. BUT it took ordinary people, many hours of work (collecting and throwing ROCKS), and persistance to change history. FT did the same thing: Sharon and a few others had the dream and provided the inspiration, but it took social media tools, and the hard work & persistance of many ordinary people to create a great site.

This has been a fascinating experience that I was privledged to be part of.

You were, and still are, part of the dream that "regular" people can make change. You were one of the early members. Someone who took a chance on the concept that strangers from all over the world could meet - virtually - and try to make a difference, not only in their communities, but globally.

Our newer members are helping make that dream become a reality. Building on the efforts of those who went before.

Where we are making social change.

The dream of dignity and respect for all.

I have enjoyed our phone conversations through the years and thank you for helping to set us on a firm foundation.

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

One day in May of '07, I was leaving my friend's house when she stopped me to show me the slaughter of thousands of chickens in an attempt to curb "bird flU". "What is that?", she asked and I started my net search that day.

I didn't have to search much until I found my way here and knew this was where the best, most accurate info was. I've learned the hours and hours it takes to make this forum what it is.

Thanks to all of you for your hard work and dedication. :tiphat:

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Happy Anniversary, Flutrackers!

You have become an invaluable source of information that can be counted on to be reliable, informative and responsible. A permanent bookmark on my laptop.

With diligence and an OUTSTANDING team, you have become a leader in Infectious Disease tracking that has gained notoriety year after year.

Cu-does to you all. Well earned. Well earned, indeed! :applause: -k

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Congrats Sharon and the FT team. I think you have set the standard for an international disease monitoring forum. You have created a safe place for scientists and lay people to coordinate efforts to produce a product that is trusted by many. You have definitely been the glue to hold this together. Best wishes to you and all the other fine contributors to this site!!

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Reminiscing about the past and the present . . .

Since 2006, FluTrackers has grown tremendously from its early roots as a small discussion group about bird flu. Over the years, the hard work, diligence, and persistence of the members has paid off. Today, it is a primary internet source for real time, reliable information on infectious disease outbreaks and public health issues.

On a daily basis, the volunteer members here comb through media reports from more than a half dozen languages in countries all around the world. The multilingual moderators and members here are scattered across the globe and are posting around the clock each day. The breadth of posts here is amazing; they range from developing news stories about diseases and outbreaks, human interest stories about personal recovery, scientific abstracts, natural disasters, other general public health information, and even posts about preparing for disasters and home medical treatment.

Congratulations to all of the participants here. I am proud to be a member of the FluTrackers team.

Thank you Mixin for taking us on the journey to understand the genetic background to viruses. Your diligence to learn and master a new topic is inspiring. Many of us were not formally trained in the areas that we post about. Yet, we have become leaders on the internet in what we, as a group, publish.

I have really enjoyed getting to know you through our many phone conversations.

Thank you for everything Kent through all the years. From sage economic posts to scientific abstracts your constant participation has helped provide a stability for FluTrackers. You were one of the first professionals to openly post on FluTrackers and this gave others a sense of "safety".

I have always enjoyed our conversations.

Al - You joined the first week and have been a active participant ever since. Your posts span all subjects and topics. There are even some original essays which are really great!

You, too, have provided a stability to the site with your constant participation. This has helped form a strong foundation for others to build upon in the ensuing years.

Thank you for everything.
