Sunday Star Times.Auck.NZ......17/4/06
"Research indicates that NZ'ers are not cleaning their hands well enough to stop the spread of disease......The study was prompted by the threat of bird flu and the Health Ministry saying that one of the biggest defences against a viral pandemic was for people to wash and dry their hands."I know that it sounds ridiculous to suggest that adults don't know how to wash their hands properly," said SCA spokesman.
"
More from survey....46% don't know that drying hands is just as important as washing them.
Research showed that wet hands can transfer over 35,000 microbes by touch, but once they are dried properly that number reduces to just 550.
On bird flu,the survey showed 26% of men were not at all concerned by it,11% said they would not go to work if there was a BF epidemic and 9% said they would stop buying or eating chicken if there was an epidemic.
