In a statement just released, the Haitian government asked the population of the regions of Ganthier and Fond Parisien, avoid consuming until further notice, the water of the lake and fish found dead on the banks coming from this area of Lake Azuei. The Government urges the people of surrounding areas to the instructions of prudence and vigilance in case of any extension of the phenomenon.

"Since December 24, 2010, it was observed the death of an abnormal amount of fish in Lake Azuei, specifically in areas of Fond Parisien and Malpasse. Alerted by the structures of the Civil Protection and local authorities, technical missions from the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture took samples of water samples and dead fish in areas of Fond Parisien and Malpasse. Analyses are underway to determine the exact causes of these deaths. Protection measures have been established since December 24 with the communal authorities with support from the departmental level of the West and central level of government. The situation currently remains under control.
