Former Quebec Liberal MP Serge Marcil has been found alive but injured in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti ? As the first group of Canadians are evacuated from Haiti, former Quebec Liberal MP Serge Marcil has been found alive but injured, according to a United Nations employee who contacted Marcil?s family.

A spokesman for the Quebec government said Thursday that Marcil, who went missing in Haiti after the quake, was being evacuted to a hospital, likely in Miami, to treat injuries.

The federal government has begun airlifting Canadians from Haiti, and may institute a humanitarian immigration program to allow hundreds or thousands of Haitians into Canada.

The first 100 Canadians removed from Haiti by Canadian military are en route to Montreal via the Dominican Republic and are scheduled to arrive at 10:05 PM. ET Thursday at Pierre Trudeau International airport.

MONTREAL - They arrived exhausted, some with streaks of dried blood still caked upon their faces, others wrapped in blankets doled out by rescue workers, but they were home.

The first group of Canadians evacuated from the chaos wrought by the Haitian earthquake landed in Montreal early Friday morning.

"Thank you," said one of the first men on the ground. "Thank you for bringing us home."

Nearly 100 weary people, 60 of them children, were flown home on the same military aircraft that carried Canadian soldiers into the Haitian disaster zone Thursday.

A second plane carrying 50 more evacuees landed soon after.
