H1N1 Vaccine Doses for Children Under 10
Niagara Region Public Health is informing parents of children who have received their first dose of the H1N1 vaccine that a second dose may not be necessary.
Previously, it was recommended that all children under the age of 10 would require two doses, at a minimum of 21 days apart. At this time, there is no second dose required for healthy children over 3 years of age and under 10 years of age. There are varied recommendations of whether a second dose is necessary for children over 6 months to 3 years of age, therefore Niagara Region Public Health recommends parents contact their health care provider to determine if a second dose is necessary for their child.
"The lived experience and current science shows healthy children over 3 years and under 10 years have achieved the required protective levels through one dose of the H1N1 vaccine that they have already received," stated Dr. Robin Williams, Medical Officer of Health.
