H1N1 sickness level going down
June 23rd, 2009 @ 11:42am

SALT LAKE CITY -- The swine flu virus remains active in Utah, but the actual sickness level is going down.

Experts say that's because, just like the normal flu, Swine Flu tends to flourish when it's cold.

Dr. Andrew Pavia, with infectious diseases at Primary Children's Medical Center, said, "We expect it will be a more dramatic and rapid outbreak in a cold climate than it will be here in the spring. In fact, that's what it's beginning to look like. Australia, Chile, Argentina are seeing a very rapid increase in cases."

Dr. Pavia says he expects H1N1 to return to Utah this winter and that it will be noticeable but not catastrophic.

Meanwhile, a vaccine for H1N1 will be ready this fall.
