The Ministry of Health warns that people suffering from hypertension, diabetes or heart or respiratory problems, should be immunized against influenza, to avoid serious complications or deaths.
The Health Portfolio states that the flu, such as a virus disease, usually affects the patient's defenses, and that can lead to complications causing serious damage, especially in patients who are debilitated or with diminished defenses.
It should be noted that influenza itself sometimes produces symptoms that contributes to serious illnesses, especially if it affects the respiratory system.
In a patient under the weakened heart disease, flu symptoms can appear much more severe, causing respiratory failure and result in pneumonia, which may even lead to death.
